- 6. A noun is a word for a person, place, or thing. Everything we can see or talk about is represented by a word that names it. That ‘naming’ word is called a noun.
- 7. Common nouns name people, animals, places or things.
- 8. Proper nouns begin with a capital letter. They name particular people, animals, places, things, organisations, days, and months.
- 9. Collective nouns name groups of people, animals or things.
- 10. Concrete nouns name things you can see, hear, smell or touch.
- 11. Abstract nouns name feelings, qualities, ideas or actions that cannot be seen unless related to a person, an action or a concrete noun.
- 12. Compound nouns are formed when two nouns are joined to form a new word, which is also a noun.

There are two different types of articles that we use in writing and conversation to point out or refer to a noun or group of nouns: definite and indefinite articles.
