10 tips at interview
- 2. 1. DO NOT BE LATE. If you do get delayed then ring the interview chairperson and let them know. DO NOT TEXT or EMAIL – RING THEM , be a proper human!
- 3. 2. DRESS APPROPRIATELY. Make enquires before hand so you don’t turn up looking over/under dressed.
- 4. 3. TURN YOUR PHONE OFF. I’m sure you can go for 1 hour in your life without your phone bleeping, ringing & buzzing.
- 5. 4. LEAVE YOUR COFFEE & FOOD IN THE BIN. The interview panel does not want you sitting in front of them slurping your coffee and munching on a Big Mac. You may say but I’m hungry – SORT IT BEFOREHAND
- 6. 5. DON’T BE AFRAID TO TAKE NOTES. Taking notes shows the panel you are interested, it may also help later when you get your opportunity to ask some questions, and you can refer back to something that was said earlier
- 7. 6. SIT COMFORTABLY. Be comfortable- Men try to avoid sitting open legged, appear relaxed but focused on the interview. Do not be distracted.
- 8. 7. KNOW YOUR CV. Know what you’ve put in your CV or application, you may have updated it, but know what is in it. The questions will come!
- 9. 8. DO NOT LIE or EXAGGERATE. Sometimes the temptation is overwhelming to lie or exaggerate but be assured you will be found out, then it just becomes messy for everyone
- 10. 9. DO NOT COME ACROSS AS DESPERATE. This may be the job you’ve always wanted with the salary you’ve always aspired to or you just need some money in the bank. Being desperate shows and can make interviewers suspicious
- 11. 10. ASK SOME SENSIBLE QUESTIONS. Write out 3 questions before hand, try to avoid salary questions unless it’s a complex payment method. People don’t leave jobs they leave bad managers - do some enquiring
- 12. 11. IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU. Applying for a new job is a two way street, not only are the panel trying to determine if you will be a good fit in the company but you also need to decided if the company will be a good fit for YOU! Sorry did I say 10 tips- maybe 11 then
