After a series of political knifings that puts Game of Thrones to shame, former premier Peter Beattie has ascended to the role of chairman of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation. It’s the latest example of the Games being treated as a plaything of whichever political party happens to hold power in Queensland. In 2011 Labor premier Anna Bligh appointed former Olympian Mark Stockwell to the top Games post. When the LNP’s Campbell Newman took power from Bligh he anointed Nigel Chamier for the job. Now Labor is back running the state and Mr Chamier has resigned, clearing the way for ”Borobeattie”.
