SHAPING THE FUTURE OF
HEALTHCARE
ALFONSO SYOEI R. YOSHIDA – 13TH OUTPUT REQUIREMENT FOR MI 298
HEALTH
 “HEALTH” - "State of complete physical, mental, and social well being, and not merely the absence of
disease or infirmity.“ (WHO)
Astana Declaration on Primary Health Care:
From Alma-Ata towards Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development
Goals
We, the participants of the Global Conference on Primary Health Care, acknowledge the
contribution of health to decades of global social and economic development and affirm
our commitment to primary health care (PHC) in pursuit of health and well-being for
all, leaving no one behind. We envision:
Societies and environments that prioritize and protect people's health;
Health care that is available and affordable for everyone, everywhere;
Health care of good quality that treats people with respect and dignity;
People engaged in their own health.
PHILIPPINE ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS
 Specialty organization by the and for the family practitioner, recognized by the Philippine Medical
Association,
 Aims to provide family physicians for every Filipino families
 Recognizes the limited capacity and inefficiency of the health care delivery system in our country  the
academy works in order to fill in this gap through strengthening the PRIMARY HEALTH CARE
International studies show that the strength of a country’s primary care system is associated with
improved population health outcomes for all-cause mortality, all-cause premature mortality, and
cause-specific premature mortality from major respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. This
relationship is significant after controlling for determinants of population health at the macro-
level
(GDP per capita, total physicians per one thousand population, percentage of elderly) and micro-
level (average number of ambulatory care visits, per capita income, alcohol and tobacco
consumption). What are the advantages and disadvantages of restructuring a health care system to be more focused on primary care
services?

HOW DOES THE SPECIALTY ORGANIZATION PREPARE FOR FUTURE
HEALTHCARE OF OUR COUNTRY?
 Recognizing the limitation of resources, technology and infrastructure, the specialty organization
addresses the gap of our country’s healthcare system through the following;
STAKEHOLDERS
By strengthening the local
health units for equitable,
continuing healthcare
HEALTHCARE
PROFESSIONALS
Providing continuing medical
education activity to uplift the
physician’s capability
TECHNOLOGY
Although still in infancy,
academy engages and
encourages utilization of
information technology as part
of every member’s competency
HOW CAN THE SPECIALTY ORGANIZATION CONTRIBUTE IN SHAPING THE
FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE SYSTEM OF OUR COUNTRY THROUGH KUBRICK’S
METHOD?
Every hospital should
have a patient advisory
board including
patients who have been
treated at that facility
• Our country’s local
health facility do hold
BARANGAY HEALTH
BOARD to which doctors,
local health workers and
representative of support
group organized by the
patient consists
• The academy can expand
this to a hospital level
Hospital managers and
administrators should
organize healthcare
hacking events
• The specialty
organization is not adept
as of the moment
technologically to
engage in this kind of
activity
• However the academy
holds information
technology as one of its
core competency in
order to grow in this
field
Healthcare event
organizers should
include patients in the
planning of their
conferences
• As yet the conferences of
the specialty
organization is purely
academic and there
should be a shift in this
trend
Startup incubators
should connect
engineers and
developers to patients
who can tell them their
needs
• Having information
technology as its core
competency, the
academy engages in
utilizing electronic
format for learning such
as webinars which is a
linkages of information
technologies and
doctors. Hopefully this
will gain grounds in
connecting to include
the needs of the patient
THE FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE DELIVERY AS PER PRIMARY CARE
SPECIALIST
 The development of our healthcare delivery system is still slow progressing in our country’s case
 The technological advancement as well as infrastructure is far lagging behind comparing to that of other
country
 The academy views that strengthening the primary care of our country as top priority in filling the gap to
improve the healthcare delivery status
 However, technological advancement should be included in the healthcare development process in due
projection of the future
