17. break every chain
The Weight
• Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are
compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and
the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and
let us run with patience the race that is set
before us, 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the
author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the
joy that was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and is set down
at the right hand of the throne of God.
Sold
• Isaiah 50:1 Thus saith the LORD, Where
[is] the bill of your mother's
divorcement, whom I have put away? or
which of my creditors [is it] to whom I
have sold you? Behold, for your
iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and
for your transgressions is your mother
put away.
Our Value
• Isaiah 52:3 For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold
yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed
without money.
• Isaiah 40:17 All nations before him [are] as
nothing; and they are counted to him less than
nothing, and vanity.
• Isaiah 13:12 I will make a man more precious
than fine gold; even a man than the golden
wedge of Ophir.
The Chain of Pride
• Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto
the woman, …ye shall be as gods,
knowing good and evil.
• Psalms 73:6 Therefore pride compasseth
them about as a chain; violence covereth
them [as] a garment.
Pride Knows Better Than God
• Hence, the word of God says,
– “Be ye not unequally yoked together with
unbelievers:” 2Cor 6:14
– “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” 1Thes 5:22
– “Flee also youthful lusts:…” 2Tim 2:22
• I don’t need God to direct me. I can direct
myself. I know what is best for my life.
• Yes, I know what God’s word says, but I know
myself and I would not have any problems by
indulging my feelings just a little.
Abuse of Freedom
• Departure from God’s word is not freedom.
This is abuse of freedom. We abuse freedom by,
– Viewing what God does not want for us to see
– Listening to what God does not want for us to
hear
– Speaking those things that God has not given us
to speak
– Eating those things that God has forbidden of us
to eat
Abuse of Freedom
• Departure from God’s word is not freedom.
This is abuse of freedom. We abuse freedom by,
– Touching those things that God has told us to
stay away from
– Going the places where God has said we should
not go
– Associating with those whom God has said would
cause us problems
– Being involve in any activity that God forbids
Bondage
• Abuse of freedom inevitably leads to
bondage. We know we are in bondage when
despite of desire, we have no power enabling
us to
– Submit to God’s will
– Read God’s word
– Congregate with God’s people
– Pray to the Lord daily
– Work for the salvation of others
– Love those who are unlovable
– Be patient with those who are unreasonable
A Slave Sold Under Sin
• Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is
spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 7:15
For that which I do I allow not: for what I
would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
7:16 If then I do that which I would not, I
consent unto the law that [it is] good. 7:17 Now
then it is no more I that do it, but sin that
dwelleth in me. 7:18 For I know that in me
(that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for
to will is present with me; but [how] to perform
that which is good I find not.
A Slave Sold Under Sin
• Romans 7:19 For the good that I would I do
not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
7:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no
more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do
good, evil is present with me. 7:22 For I
delight in the law of God after the inward
man: 7:23 But I see another law in my
members, warring against the law of my
mind, and bringing me into captivity to the
law of sin which is in my members.
A Slave Sold Under Sin
• Rom. 7:24 O wretched man that I
am! who shall deliver me from the
body of this death?
• 7:25 I thank God through Jesus
Christ our Lord. So then with the
mind I myself serve the law of God;
but with the flesh the law of sin.
The Bible Says,
• Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man [is] right in
his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the
hearts.
• Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes:
fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
• Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which
seemeth right unto a man, but the end
thereof [are] the ways of death.
Listen to God’s Voice
• Isaiah 30:21And thine ears shall
hear a word behind thee, saying,
This [is] the way, walk ye in it,
when ye turn to the right hand,
and when ye turn to the left.
To Believe Satan’s Word,
• Is to forsake God’s word
• Is to believe in your own ability to discern
between right and wrong
• Is to live in a state of self-deception
• Is to be in a state of bondage believing you
are free
• Is to be a willing slave to sin despite its
inevitable consequences
• Is to be an unwilling slave to Satan and can’t
break free from his shackles – That bad habit
Jesus Came to Break Every Chain
• Luke 4:17 And there was delivered unto him
the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he
had opened the book, he found the place
where it was written, 4:18 The Spirit of the
Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed
me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath
sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach
deliverance to the captives, and recovering of
sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that
are bruised, 4:19 To preach the acceptable
year of the Lord.
Jesus Came to Set The Captives Free
• Only Liberated People can
– Bring the Reformation to a climax
– Carry the Gospel of Freedom to the World
– Preach the Loud Cry of the third angel’s message
– Live the last message of Mercy in a rebellious
world
– Stand in the last great Crisis of the ages
– Die for the cause of the Lord
– Be used by God to set others free
God Sees It All
• Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the LORD [are] in
every place, beholding the evil and the good.
• Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature
that is not manifest in his sight: but all things
[are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him
with whom we have to do.
God Sees It All
• Psalms 139:1 O LORD, thou hast searched
me, and known [me]. 139:2Thou knowest my
downsitting and mine uprising, thou
understandest my thought afar off. 139:3
Thou compassest my path and my lying
down, and art acquainted [with] all my ways.
139:4 For [there is] not a word in my tongue,
[but], lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
139:5 Thou hast beset me behind and before,
and laid thine hand upon me.
And He Comes to Deliver
• Exodus 3:7 And the LORD said, I have
surely seen the affliction of my people
which [are] in Egypt, and have heard
their cry by reason of their taskmasters;
for I know their sorrows; 3:8 And I am
come down to deliver them out of the
hand of the Egyptians, …
God is The Deliverer
• Exodus 14:9 But the Egyptians pursued
after them, all the horses [and] chariots of
Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army,
and overtook them encamping by the sea,
beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon. 14:10
And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children
of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the
Egyptians marched after them; and they
were sore afraid: and the children of Israel
cried out unto the LORD.
God is The Deliverer
• Exodus 14:13 And Moses said unto
the people, Fear ye not, stand still,
and see the salvation of the LORD,
which he will show to you to day:
for the Egyptians whom ye have
seen to day, ye shall see them again
no more for ever. 14:14 The LORD
shall fight for you, and ye shall hold
your peace.
And Ye Shall Hold Your Peace
• Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is
formed against thee shall prosper;
and every tongue [that] shall rise
against thee in judgment thou shalt
condemn. This [is] the heritage of
the servants of the LORD, and their
righteousness [is] of me, saith the
LORD.
When Your Experience is One of
Constant Defeat
• Remember,
– Christ is the Savior
– Christ is the Redeemer
– Christ is the Deliverer
– Christ is the ANSWER!
• Paul Says,
• Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any
other: for there is none other name under
heaven given among men, whereby we must
be saved.
Christ Says,
• Isaiah 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put
away the evil of your doings from before
mine eyes; cease to do evil; 1:17 Learn to do
well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed,
judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
1:18 Come now, and let us reason together,
saith the LORD: though your sins be as
scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be
as wool.
Christ Delivers from the Chains of
• Romans 1:29 …all
unrighteousness, fornication,
wickedness, covetousness,
maliciousness; full of envy,
murder, debate, deceit,
malignity; whisperers,
He Delivered Us From Being
• Romans 1:30 Backbiters, haters of
God, despiteful, proud, boasters,
inventors of evil things, disobedient
to parents, 1:31 Without
understanding, covenantbreakers,
without natural affection,
implacable, unmerciful:
He Saves From Works of the Flesh
• Galatians 5:19 …; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness,
lasciviousness, 5:20 Idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance,
emulations, wrath, strife, seditions,
heresies, 5:21 Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings,
In Christ, We are made
• Colossians 1:22 …holy and unblameable and
unreproveable in his sight:
• Paul says,
• Colossians 3:9Lie not one to another, seeing
that ye have put off the old man with his
deeds; 3:10 And have put on the new [man],
which is renewed in knowledge after the
image of him that created him:
Again He Says,
• 1Corinthians 6:11 …: but ye
are washed, but ye are
sanctified, but ye are justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus,
and by the Spirit of our God.
Jesus Invites us says,
• Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that
labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and
learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
11:30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is
light.
He Desires To Break Every Chain
• Come to Him and
–He will break the chains of depression,
discouragement, sadness, unhappiness,
impatience, anger, frustration, self-
justification, self-condemnation, self-
defense, fear, cowardice, bitterness,
resentment, uncertainty, grief, shame and
blame.
Paul Says,
• 2Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks [be] unto God,
which always causeth us to triumph in Christ,
and maketh manifest the savour of his
knowledge by us in every place.
• Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep
you from falling, and to present [you] faultless
before the presence of his glory with exceeding
joy, 1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, [be]
glory and majesty, dominion and power, both
now and for ever. Amen.
In Christ Every Satanic Chain is Broken
• "And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord
rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath
chosen Jerusalem, rebuke thee: is not this a
brand plucked out of the fire?" [Zechariah
3:2]. Unworthy though they may be for His
great work, the Lord Jesus manifests to the
enemy that they are accepted through the
righteousness of One who has resisted every
satanic art and device. {20MR 189.5}
In Christ Every Satanic Chain is Broken
• …the faithful gospel worker need
not fear defeat at the hand of the
enemy; for it is his privilege to be
endued with power from above to
withstand every satanic influence.
{AA 167.3}
Freedom – Heritage of God’s People
• God assures us freedom from the flesh
• God assures us freedom from the world
• God assures us freedom from the devil
• God assures us freedom from the power
of sin
• God assures us freedom from the
dominion of sin
Freedom – Heritage of God’s People
•And one day, in heaven, God assures us
freedom from the very presence of Sin.
Anchor of the Soul
• Hebrews 6:17 Wherein God, willing more
abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise
the immutability of his counsel, confirmed [it]
by an oath: 6:18 That by two immutable
things, in which [it was] impossible for God to
lie, we might have a strong consolation, who
have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope
set before us: 6:19 Which [hope] we have as
an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast,
and which entereth into that within the veil;
Anchor of the Soul
• There are two immutable realities which
forms the basis of our hope.
• God’s oath to Christ
– He will be a Priest forever after the Order of
Melchizedek
• Impossible for God to lie
– There is power in God’s word to perform all that
He says.
Anchor of the Soul
• When our minds are stayed upon
these two immutable realities,
there is nothing in earth or heaven
that can cause us to be moved.
• This anchor of the soul is the
mystery .
The Mystery
• Rev. 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the
seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound,
the mystery of God should be finished, as he
hath declared to his servants the prophets.
• Rom. 9:28 For he will finish the work, and
cut [it] short in righteousness: because a
short work will the Lord make upon the
earth.
What Is The Mystery?
• 1Timothy 3:16 And without
controversy great is the mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the
flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of
angels, preached unto the Gentiles,
believed on in the world, received
up into glory.
God Manifest in the Flesh
• The anchor of our souls then is God manifest
in the flesh.
• That which will keep us through every storm
of life is the fact that God was manifest in the
flesh.
• Satan’s aim is to divert our minds from our
anchor and cause us to drift out into the
stormy seas of life and become shipwreck
upon the rocks of sin.
We become shipwreck
• Upon the rocks of infidelity
• Upon the rocks of discouragement
• Upon the rocks of doubt
• Upon the rocks of sexual immorality
• Upon the rocks of illicit drugs
• Upon the rocks of materialism
• Upon the rocks of the cares of this life
Let the Anchor Hold
• Regardless to the tempest
• Regardless to the storm
• Regardless to the tornado
• Regardless to the flood
• Let your anchor hold to the fact that God is
manifest in the flesh, He is a Priest forever
after the order of Melchizedek, and it is
impossible for Him to lie.
• He makes good what He has promised.
Paul Says,
• 1Corinthians. 1:20 For all the promises of
God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto
the glory of God by us.
• All the prophets of old held to this anchor.
• This mysterious anchor kept them, comforted
them, secured them, stabilized them, assured
them, insured them, protected them,
strengthened, consoled and encouraged
them.
• In all your circumstances hold to your anchor.
Mary Held to the Anchor
• Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel
Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of
Galilee, named Nazareth, 1:27 To a virgin
espoused to a man whose name was Joseph,
of the house of David; and the virgin's name
[was] Mary. 1:28 And the angel came in unto
her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly
favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed
[art] thou among women.
Mary Held to the Anchor
• Luke 1:29 And when she saw [him], she was
troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind
what manner of salutation this should be.
1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not,
Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy
womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call
his name JESUS.
Mary Held to the Anchor
• Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be
called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord
God shall give unto him the throne of his
father David: 1:33 And he shall reign over
the house of Jacob for ever; and of his
kingdom there shall be no end. 1:34Then said
Mary unto the angel, How shall this be,
seeing I know not a man?
Mary Held to the Anchor
• Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said
unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon
thee, and the power of the Highest shall
overshadow thee: therefore also that holy
thing which shall be born of thee shall be
called the Son of God. 1:37 For with God
nothing shall be impossible. 1:38 And Mary
said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it
unto me according to thy word.
Those Who Are Anchored
• We see from the case of Mary that God cannot
accomplish His mystery on earth outside of
man’s involvement.
• Those who are anchored are a peculiar people.
– They are virgins
– They have favor with God
– The Holy Ghost is upon them
– The power of the Most High has overshadow them
– They produce only that Holy Thing – The Son of God
– Their lives are lives of impossibility
– And they give willing consent to God as vessels.
Peter Says,
• 1Peter 2:9 But ye [are] a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, an
holy nation, a peculiar people; that
ye should show forth the praises of
him who hath called you out of
darkness into his marvellous light.
I am Anchored
• Mysterious things happen to those who are
anchored with the mysterious anchor.
• Being anchored involves suffering, trials,
tribulations, temptations, sorrows,
persecutions, dangers, cannot break the
chain affixed to our anchor, It strengthens the
hold.
Paul Says,
• Philippians 1:28 And in nothing terrified by
your adversaries: which is to them an evident
token of perdition, but to you of salvation,
and that of God. 1:29 For unto you it is given
in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on
him, but also to suffer for his sake; 1:30
Having the same conflict which ye saw in
me, and now hear [to be] in me.
Let’s Consider Those
• Hebrews 11:33 Who through faith subdued
kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained
promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 11:34
Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the
edge of the sword, out of weakness were
made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned
to flight the armies of the aliens. 11:35
Women received their dead raised to life
again: and others were tortured, not
accepting deliverance; that they might obtain
a better resurrection:
Let’s Consider Those
• Hebrews 11:36 And others had trial of
[cruel] mockings and scourgings, yea,
moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 11:37
They were stoned, they were sawn asunder,
were tempted, were slain with the sword:
they wandered about in sheepskins and
goatskins; being destitute, afflicted,
tormented; 11:38 (Of whom the world was
not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and
[in] mountains, and [in] dens and caves of the
earth.
They Were Anchored
• Being anchored there lives were lives of
impossibility.
– Elijah caused it to rain and outran a chariot
– Elisha caused iron to float
– Peter walked upon water
– John basked in a caldron of boiling oil
– Luther stood against the Goliath of the medieval
world.
– Huss and Jerome Sang as they were burnt.
– Daniel stroked the Lions like pets
And the Stories Continues
• All of the books in the world cannot contain
the exploits of those who were anchored
with the mysterious anchor.
• However, we have enough witnesses, we
have enough testimonies, we have enough
voices echoed through the ages
That The Anchor Holds
• Ask Abel – He being dead yet speaketh
• Ask Abraham – He knew his son would live
again
• Ask Isaac – He knew God had a well for him
• Ask Jacob – He knew the ladder reach God’s
throne and he prevailed with the angel.
• Ask Joseph – He knew all things work
together for good.
• Ask Moses – He went to the mountain top
and saw the promise land.
Men who Lived the Mystery can Testify
• Ask Joshua – He conquered Jericho by taking
a walk. Besides he had power over the sun.
• Ask Gideon – His army was 300 with empty
pitcher, trumpets and lamps.
• Ask Daniel – He stopped the mouth of Lions
• Ask the three Hebrew men – They enjoyed
company with Christ in the fiery furnace.
• Ask John the Baptist – He lost his head after
six months of ministry.
Men who Lived the Mystery can Testify
• Ask Peter – He chose to be crucified upside
down to honor His Master
• Ask Paul – After God used His brain he loosed
his head
• Ask the early Christian Martyrs, the
Waldenses, the reformers
• These all testified that the anchor holds
though the ship is battered.
• Let your witness join their testimony.
They Were Anchored
• Their ship was anchored to the Rock. Note:
• In this situation we have the ship, the chain,
the anchor and the rock.
• The security of the faithful in the past was
that
– God manifest in the flesh was their chain
– God manifest in the flesh was their anchor
– God manifest in the flesh was their Rock
• They did not hold the anchor, the anchor held
them! And it will hold us today!
When Brought into Temptation and
Trial Remember
• Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine
heart, that I might not sin against thee.
• Psalms 26:3 Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect
peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]:
because he trusteth in thee.
• Hebrews 13:5 [Let your] conversation [be]
without covetousness; [and be] content with
such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will
never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Absolute Security
• Psalms 91:2 I will say of the LORD, [He is]
my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him
will I trust. 91:3 Surely he shall deliver thee
from the snare of the fowler, [and] from the
noisome pestilence. 91:4 He shall cover
thee with his feathers, and under his wings
shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield
and buckler. 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid
for the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow
[that] flieth by day;
Absolute Security
• Psalms 91:6 [Nor] for the pestilence [that]
walketh in darkness; [nor] for the destruction
[that] wasteth at noonday. 91:7 A thousand
shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy
right hand; [but] it shall not come nigh thee.
91:8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold
and see the reward of the wicked. 91:9
Because thou hast made the LORD, [which
is] my refuge, [even] the most High, thy
habitation;
Absolute Security
• Psalms 91:10 There shall no evil
befall thee, neither shall any plague
come nigh thy dwelling. 91:11 For
he shall give his angels charge over
thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
91:12 They shall bear thee up in
[their] hands, lest thou dash thy
foot against a stone.
When It Doesn’t Make Sense
• Unexplainable things happen to those who
are anchored. Things will become plain in
glory.
• The question, “Why Me” is often asked.
• The answer, “Why not Me” returns to us.
• Though anchored we will have to part ways
with Property, Family, Comfort, Health and
Life it self
When It Doesn’t Make Sense
• No Problem!!!
• This world is not my home, I’m just passing
through.
– My treasure is not here, it is in glory.
– My hope is not here, it is to come.
– My life is not here, it is hid with God in Christ.
– I have to loose it all, so that I can gain everything.
When It Doesn’t Make Sense
• I therefore will welcome the
testing trials – They are my
friends, my helpers, my aids
for without them I will not be
prepared for my inheritance.
Peter Encourages,
• 1Peter 1:7 That the trial of your
faith, being much more precious
than of gold that perisheth,
though it be tried with fire,
might be found unto praise and
honour and glory at the
appearing of Jesus Christ:
Again He Says,
• 1Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath
suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves
likewise with the same mind: for he that hath
suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 4:2
That he no longer should live the rest of [his]
time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to
the will of God.
Total Cleansing When Anchored
• Truth must reach down to the deepest
recesses of the soul, and cleanse away
everything unlike the spirit of Christ, and the
vacuum be supplied by the attributes of His
character who was pure and holy and
undefiled, that all the springs of the heart
may be as flowers, fragrant with perfume, a
sweet smelling savor, a savor of life unto life.
{FLB 18.5}
A Storm is Approaching
• Its now time for inspection. Your boat may be
leaky, your boat may be creaky, your boat
may be battered, your boat may be worn, but
– Test your chain
– Test your anchor
– Test your Rock
• If God manifested in the flesh is not your
chain, anchor and Rock, then your ship will
be lost.
• Paul was sure of His anchor.
His Anchor Held fast to the End
• 2Timothy 4:6 For I am now ready to be
offered, and the time of my departure is at
hand. 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have
finished [my] course, I have kept the faith:
4:8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown
of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only, but unto all them also
that love his appearing.
Stephen’s Anchor Held Fast
• Acts 7:55 But he, being full of the Holy
Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and
saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on
the right hand of God, 7:56 And said, Behold,
I see the heavens opened, and the Son of
man standing on the right hand of God.
Hebrew Worthies Anchor Held Fast
• Daniels 3:16 Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, answered and said to the king, O
Nebuchadnezzar, we [are] not careful to
answer thee in this matter. 3:17 If it be [so],
our God whom we serve is able to deliver us
from the burning fiery furnace, and he will
deliver [us] out of thine hand, O king. 3:18
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king,
that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship
the golden image which thou hast set up.
What About Our Anchor
• Philippians 3:7: But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for
Christ. 8: Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency
of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the
loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, :9:
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the
law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness
which is of God by faith: 10: That I may know him, and the power of his
resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made
conformable unto his death; 11: If by any means I might attain unto the
resurrection of the dead. 12: Not as though I had already attained, either
were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for
which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13: Brethren, I count not
myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those
things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are
before, 14: I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus. 15: Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus
minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal
even this unto you. 16: Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained,
let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

17. break every chain

  • 2. The Weight • Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
  • 3. Sold • Isaiah 50:1 Thus saith the LORD, Where [is] the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors [is it] to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
  • 4. Our Value • Isaiah 52:3 For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money. • Isaiah 40:17 All nations before him [are] as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. • Isaiah 13:12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
  • 5. The Chain of Pride • Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, …ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. • Psalms 73:6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them [as] a garment.
  • 6. Pride Knows Better Than God • Hence, the word of God says, – “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:” 2Cor 6:14 – “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” 1Thes 5:22 – “Flee also youthful lusts:…” 2Tim 2:22 • I don’t need God to direct me. I can direct myself. I know what is best for my life. • Yes, I know what God’s word says, but I know myself and I would not have any problems by indulging my feelings just a little.
  • 7. Abuse of Freedom • Departure from God’s word is not freedom. This is abuse of freedom. We abuse freedom by, – Viewing what God does not want for us to see – Listening to what God does not want for us to hear – Speaking those things that God has not given us to speak – Eating those things that God has forbidden of us to eat
  • 8. Abuse of Freedom • Departure from God’s word is not freedom. This is abuse of freedom. We abuse freedom by, – Touching those things that God has told us to stay away from – Going the places where God has said we should not go – Associating with those whom God has said would cause us problems – Being involve in any activity that God forbids
  • 9. Bondage • Abuse of freedom inevitably leads to bondage. We know we are in bondage when despite of desire, we have no power enabling us to – Submit to God’s will – Read God’s word – Congregate with God’s people – Pray to the Lord daily – Work for the salvation of others – Love those who are unlovable – Be patient with those who are unreasonable
  • 10. A Slave Sold Under Sin • Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 7:16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that [it is] good. 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but [how] to perform that which is good I find not.
  • 11. A Slave Sold Under Sin • Romans 7:19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 7:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
  • 12. A Slave Sold Under Sin • Rom. 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? • 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
  • 13. The Bible Says, • Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. • Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. • Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.
  • 14. Listen to God’s Voice • Isaiah 30:21And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This [is] the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
  • 15. To Believe Satan’s Word, • Is to forsake God’s word • Is to believe in your own ability to discern between right and wrong • Is to live in a state of self-deception • Is to be in a state of bondage believing you are free • Is to be a willing slave to sin despite its inevitable consequences • Is to be an unwilling slave to Satan and can’t break free from his shackles – That bad habit
  • 16. Jesus Came to Break Every Chain • Luke 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
  • 17. Jesus Came to Set The Captives Free • Only Liberated People can – Bring the Reformation to a climax – Carry the Gospel of Freedom to the World – Preach the Loud Cry of the third angel’s message – Live the last message of Mercy in a rebellious world – Stand in the last great Crisis of the ages – Die for the cause of the Lord – Be used by God to set others free
  • 18. God Sees It All • Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding the evil and the good. • Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
  • 19. God Sees It All • Psalms 139:1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known [me]. 139:2Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 139:3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted [with] all my ways. 139:4 For [there is] not a word in my tongue, [but], lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. 139:5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
  • 20. And He Comes to Deliver • Exodus 3:7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 3:8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, …
  • 21. God is The Deliverer • Exodus 14:9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses [and] chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon. 14:10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
  • 22. God is The Deliverer • Exodus 14:13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14:14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
  • 23. And Ye Shall Hold Your Peace • Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue [that] shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This [is] the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness [is] of me, saith the LORD.
  • 24. When Your Experience is One of Constant Defeat • Remember, – Christ is the Savior – Christ is the Redeemer – Christ is the Deliverer – Christ is the ANSWER! • Paul Says, • Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
  • 25. Christ Says, • Isaiah 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; 1:17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
  • 26. Christ Delivers from the Chains of • Romans 1:29 …all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
  • 27. He Delivered Us From Being • Romans 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
  • 28. He Saves From Works of the Flesh • Galatians 5:19 …; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,
  • 29. In Christ, We are made • Colossians 1:22 …holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: • Paul says, • Colossians 3:9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 3:10 And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
  • 30. Again He Says, • 1Corinthians 6:11 …: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
  • 31. Jesus Invites us says, • Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 11:30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.
  • 32. He Desires To Break Every Chain • Come to Him and –He will break the chains of depression, discouragement, sadness, unhappiness, impatience, anger, frustration, self- justification, self-condemnation, self- defense, fear, cowardice, bitterness, resentment, uncertainty, grief, shame and blame.
  • 33. Paul Says, • 2Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks [be] unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. • Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, [be] glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.
  • 34. In Christ Every Satanic Chain is Broken • "And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem, rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?" [Zechariah 3:2]. Unworthy though they may be for His great work, the Lord Jesus manifests to the enemy that they are accepted through the righteousness of One who has resisted every satanic art and device. {20MR 189.5}
  • 35. In Christ Every Satanic Chain is Broken • …the faithful gospel worker need not fear defeat at the hand of the enemy; for it is his privilege to be endued with power from above to withstand every satanic influence. {AA 167.3}
  • 36. Freedom – Heritage of God’s People • God assures us freedom from the flesh • God assures us freedom from the world • God assures us freedom from the devil • God assures us freedom from the power of sin • God assures us freedom from the dominion of sin
  • 37. Freedom – Heritage of God’s People •And one day, in heaven, God assures us freedom from the very presence of Sin.
  • 38. Anchor of the Soul • Hebrews 6:17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed [it] by an oath: 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which [it was] impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 6:19 Which [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
  • 39. Anchor of the Soul • There are two immutable realities which forms the basis of our hope. • God’s oath to Christ – He will be a Priest forever after the Order of Melchizedek • Impossible for God to lie – There is power in God’s word to perform all that He says.
  • 40. Anchor of the Soul • When our minds are stayed upon these two immutable realities, there is nothing in earth or heaven that can cause us to be moved. • This anchor of the soul is the mystery .
  • 41. The Mystery • Rev. 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. • Rom. 9:28 For he will finish the work, and cut [it] short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
  • 42. What Is The Mystery? • 1Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
  • 43. God Manifest in the Flesh • The anchor of our souls then is God manifest in the flesh. • That which will keep us through every storm of life is the fact that God was manifest in the flesh. • Satan’s aim is to divert our minds from our anchor and cause us to drift out into the stormy seas of life and become shipwreck upon the rocks of sin.
  • 44. We become shipwreck • Upon the rocks of infidelity • Upon the rocks of discouragement • Upon the rocks of doubt • Upon the rocks of sexual immorality • Upon the rocks of illicit drugs • Upon the rocks of materialism • Upon the rocks of the cares of this life
  • 45. Let the Anchor Hold • Regardless to the tempest • Regardless to the storm • Regardless to the tornado • Regardless to the flood • Let your anchor hold to the fact that God is manifest in the flesh, He is a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, and it is impossible for Him to lie. • He makes good what He has promised.
  • 46. Paul Says, • 1Corinthians. 1:20 For all the promises of God in him [are] yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. • All the prophets of old held to this anchor. • This mysterious anchor kept them, comforted them, secured them, stabilized them, assured them, insured them, protected them, strengthened, consoled and encouraged them. • In all your circumstances hold to your anchor.
  • 47. Mary Held to the Anchor • Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name [was] Mary. 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.
  • 48. Mary Held to the Anchor • Luke 1:29 And when she saw [him], she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
  • 49. Mary Held to the Anchor • Luke 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 1:34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
  • 50. Mary Held to the Anchor • Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
  • 51. Those Who Are Anchored • We see from the case of Mary that God cannot accomplish His mystery on earth outside of man’s involvement. • Those who are anchored are a peculiar people. – They are virgins – They have favor with God – The Holy Ghost is upon them – The power of the Most High has overshadow them – They produce only that Holy Thing – The Son of God – Their lives are lives of impossibility – And they give willing consent to God as vessels.
  • 52. Peter Says, • 1Peter 2:9 But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
  • 53. I am Anchored • Mysterious things happen to those who are anchored with the mysterious anchor. • Being anchored involves suffering, trials, tribulations, temptations, sorrows, persecutions, dangers, cannot break the chain affixed to our anchor, It strengthens the hold.
  • 54. Paul Says, • Philippians 1:28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 1:30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear [to be] in me.
  • 55. Let’s Consider Those • Hebrews 11:33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 11:34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
  • 56. Let’s Consider Those • Hebrews 11:36 And others had trial of [cruel] mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 11:37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 11:38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and [in] mountains, and [in] dens and caves of the earth.
  • 57. They Were Anchored • Being anchored there lives were lives of impossibility. – Elijah caused it to rain and outran a chariot – Elisha caused iron to float – Peter walked upon water – John basked in a caldron of boiling oil – Luther stood against the Goliath of the medieval world. – Huss and Jerome Sang as they were burnt. – Daniel stroked the Lions like pets
  • 58. And the Stories Continues • All of the books in the world cannot contain the exploits of those who were anchored with the mysterious anchor. • However, we have enough witnesses, we have enough testimonies, we have enough voices echoed through the ages
  • 59. That The Anchor Holds • Ask Abel – He being dead yet speaketh • Ask Abraham – He knew his son would live again • Ask Isaac – He knew God had a well for him • Ask Jacob – He knew the ladder reach God’s throne and he prevailed with the angel. • Ask Joseph – He knew all things work together for good. • Ask Moses – He went to the mountain top and saw the promise land.
  • 60. Men who Lived the Mystery can Testify • Ask Joshua – He conquered Jericho by taking a walk. Besides he had power over the sun. • Ask Gideon – His army was 300 with empty pitcher, trumpets and lamps. • Ask Daniel – He stopped the mouth of Lions • Ask the three Hebrew men – They enjoyed company with Christ in the fiery furnace. • Ask John the Baptist – He lost his head after six months of ministry.
  • 61. Men who Lived the Mystery can Testify • Ask Peter – He chose to be crucified upside down to honor His Master • Ask Paul – After God used His brain he loosed his head • Ask the early Christian Martyrs, the Waldenses, the reformers • These all testified that the anchor holds though the ship is battered. • Let your witness join their testimony.
  • 62. They Were Anchored • Their ship was anchored to the Rock. Note: • In this situation we have the ship, the chain, the anchor and the rock. • The security of the faithful in the past was that – God manifest in the flesh was their chain – God manifest in the flesh was their anchor – God manifest in the flesh was their Rock • They did not hold the anchor, the anchor held them! And it will hold us today!
  • 63. • 77. What About Our Anchor • Philippians 3:7: But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8: Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, :9: And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11: If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. 12: Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14: I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15: Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16: Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
