Books have many parts. Each part of a book can give you information about the book.
Last week we learned about the information you can find on the  title page  and  table of contents  of a book. Let’s review using a book on ….
Title Page Is this a fiction or nonfiction  book? 2. What are three pieces of  information we usually find  on a title page? Where is the Title page of a book located?
What information about a book does the Table of Contents page give us?
Today we are going to talk about two more parts of a book.  The  glossary  and the  index . Do you know where they are located in a book?
A   glossary  is a short dictionary or “mini” dictionary. It is usually at the back of a book. You can use it the same way you use a dictionary.   The words in the  glossary  are organized in ABC order. The glossary gives us the meaning of words we may not know in the book we are reading. Let’s look at the  glossary  form our book on bees….
Glossary: Notice the entry words are printed in darker print and are in ABC order. How many words are there in this glossary? Can you read them?
In some books there are many different subjects. You can find these subjects by looking in the back of the book at the book  index . The subjects are listed in alphabetical order. bees page 3 bugs page 7 cats page 10 dogs page 15
This is the  index  from our book on bees….. On what page(s) would you turn to to read about …..
