AP World History
Course Syllabus!
Danielle Trent !
Van Buren High School
COURSE DESCRIPTION: AP World History is an academic year-long course that is meant
to be the equivalent of a freshman college course and can earn students college credit.!
The course traces the development of world history from the emergence of cities to the
present. This course emphasizes the analytical and writing skills necessary for success in a
college-level history course. AP World History devotes considerable time to the critical
evaluation of primary and secondary sources, analysis of historiography, short essays and
development of a Document-based question.
This is not your traditional World History survey course. A considerable amount of time is
spent on the world religions since it is impossible to study ancient history without studying the
religious foundations/connections. Also, this is truly a world history course…..the East, Africa,
Latin America, etc. are all studied. This course is open to students in grades 10-12. !
Course weight: 5.0 (on a 4.0 scale) !
