- 1. AP World History Summer Assignment 2014 Dear APWH students, I am looking forward to getting to know you this year as we share the fascinating voyage of world history. Please take some time this summer to prepare yourself for our year-long adventure by completing the assignments below. A commitment to reading and a knowledge of geography are important for advanced placement history, so letâs start by learning about how the earliest people lived and by constructing maps you will use throughout the year. Make World Maps of both hemispheres Anytime over the summer, use a world atlas online or from the library to color in and mark your maps (eastern and western hemisphere) per directions on the handout below (also available at slideshare.net/janet.pareja ) Follow the directions below, remembering to mark locations with numbers in black ink. Your completed map will be collected on the first day of school, and there will be a quiz over the information on your map during the second week of school. Directions for Maps Please follow directions. Label both maps - eastern and western hemispheres- using colored pencils (not magic marker or crayon) to mark just the numbers of the locations on the list below. Do not write the names of the locations, on your map - just record the numbers that correspond to the correct names. - Please color the listed bodies of water BLUE, and mark the number of their names in BLACK INK. - Please color the mountains BROWN, & mark the number in BLACK INK. - Please color deserts ORANGE/YELLOW and mark the numbers in BLACK INK. - Please color grasslands GREEN, labeling themwith the appropriate number in BLACK INK. - You may color the rest of the land yellow-green and all water blue if you like. Maps will be graded for: 1) following the directions on this sheet 2) correctness & completion of your maps 3) ease of use/legibility - so please create a neat and thorough map you can use throughout the year. 2. Read your new text book and take notes on pages li-33. After you pick up your book at the Sig Book Store (August 5-6), read the following pages in your text, Ways of the World, by Robert W. Strayer. Take notes over JUST the MOST IMPORTANT information in your own handwriting, to turn in on the SECOND day of class, Monday, August 11 or Tuesday August 12. Important: typed notes will not be accepted for a grade.
