• #19: SUMMARY Ongoing IT difficulties at OrthoSynetics were preventing consistent delivery of reliable client services. Without the expected IT speed and reliability, customer complaints were increasing, and service renewals were in jeopardy. Adopting a new strategy to move from legacy infrastructure to Azure cloud, all servers/applications were to be migrated, largely eliminating physical infrastructure. • #21: Initial Situation: Since AGROTRADE was facing increasing hardware costs for its physical servers, the company chose Azure as its central hosting platform to cut costs for hardware and complex administration. The company was also interested in a single, central communication platform that would integrate all required services and improve collaboration and security. For those reasons, Office 365 was the preferred solution. • #25: Initial Situation: Agora was using Google Apps for email. They were extremely dissatisfied with the user experience, lack of integration, complex administration and minimal support for the Gmail App sync tool for Microsoft Office. Agora’s goal was to have better control with an integrated IT system. Solution / Service: SoftwareONE performed a cutover email migration overnight from Google Apps to Microsoft Exchange Online; eliminated Agora’s disparate systems and enabled centralized management for their IT team. • #26: Initial Situation: Many of NaXex’s remote staff members were working on disparate IT systems with complex centralized workstation management. It had become increasingly difficult to troubleshoot and resolve issues with workstations, e-mail, and productivity tools. • #31: Initial Situation: The demerger in 2013 created a challenging situation in terms of SAM for Valmet: a lot of new agreements had to be signed and many license transfers from the previous company had to take place. Furthermore, Valmet has approximately 13,500 users/desktops worldwide that need to be managed. Thus, the objectives were to uphold compliance and ensure that usage rights were used and purchased in a cost-efficient manner. Solution/Service: COMPAREX recommended Snow License Manager as a managed service. COMPAREX Finland, the Platinum Partner for Snow, offered to host the Snow SAM platform in the cloud. Valmet and COMPAREX reached a three-year agreement whereby COMPAREX would manage Valmet’s software assets and software procurement as a service. • #33: The important part here is that the tools are all great – a near necessity today. However, don’t forget the when experts were polled @ Gartner a few years ago they asked what was the most important element of success – the answer….- someone to make sense of it all. Don’t forget it’s a people, process and technology mixture that makes SAM work.
• #44: PyraCloud Benefits Provided immediate insights which quickly identified Azure spend tracking at 3X the allocated cloud budget. • Drilled down and identified high utilization VMs to shutdown or turn off during off hours. “PyraCloud provided quick insights into the actual spend and trends going forward for the Azure EA agreement. We realized – via PyraCloud - that our Azure spend will be 3X higher than what we actually committed and this was easier and quicker than going to the Azure Portal.” Richard Bezjian, Director of Engineering at LA Metro PyraCloud delivered immediate benefits. LA Metro quickly gained insights into its Azure spend and realized that the Azure spend was trending to be 3X higher than the initial budget. The IT team was then able to drill down into specific cloud resources and work with Line of Business and other key stakeholders to take the following actions: 1. Identify high utilization Virtual Machines (VMs) and take proactive steps to throttle their use 2. Conduct automated shutdown of VMs during off hours 3. Work with development teams to turn down any VMs that were not being utilized By taking these proactive steps, LA Metro was able to get its Azure spend in control and is using the PyraCloud platform going forward to make sure cloud budgets are not exceeded for the term of the EA agreement.
