Basic Bloomerang
Terminology
Funds
(only field of the three
required in Bloomerang)
Money is going to that specific
bucket.
This is usually going to be funding
areas that span multiple years.
Examples:
● Unrestricted
● Program
● Scholarships
Funds are the big
buckets of money
Fund, Campaign, and Appeal Basics
TIP: Set up your funds to mimic
your finance/accounting system.
This makes record-keeping easier!
Campaigns
● Have a financial goal
● Have a specific date range
● Examples:
○ Annual Campaign
○ Capital Campaign
○ LARGE Events
Campaigns are specific,
overarching fundraising
efforts
Fund, Campaign, and Appeal Basics
Campaigns are defined by the
financial goal and date range. The
date range could span an
extended period of time
depending on the type of
campaign.
Appeals
Examples:

Appeals are a
specific request for
funds

Example: A pledge of $5,000 paid in
installments over the next five years
Example: A recurring gift of $50 a month
Soft Credits
A soft credit is a way to give a constituent monetary credit for another constituent’s
donation. Typically used for recognition purposes. A soft credit is not actual received
funds and is not tax deductible. Use it to track the fundraising efforts of your solicitors,
board members, event participants, matching gifts, and more.
