This document summarizes a research article that explores the capabilities needed for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the food and beverages industry in Malaysia to enhance export performance. It indicates that innovation capability and adaptive capability are important based on interviews with 21 SMEs. Innovation capability refers to a firm's ability to develop new products and processes, while adaptive capability is the ability to learn and adapt to changes in the business environment. The study finds these capabilities are crucial for SMEs to overcome challenges of entering new international markets and to sustain competitive advantage.
