This document summarizes a research study on outsourcing 3PL (third-party logistics) services from an Australian perspective. The study examined the extent and types of logistics services outsourced by Australian firms, as well as their motivations and the impact. It found that the most commonly outsourced logistics functions were warehouse management, order fulfillment, and fleet management. The top motivations for outsourcing were cost reduction, reducing capital investment, and gaining operational flexibility. Most firms reported high satisfaction with 3PL providers and intended to continue using them, but about half reported that outsourcing negatively impacted employee morale.
