Le Gleo mentions it and we as readers know that he is superstitious (as well as a little crazy!).The Rats a. Land Rats – not even a foot long, run away at the sound of anything, scared, wretched creatures b. Sea Rats – smart, vicious, run in hordes (clannish), fierce, bold, large, sea-wise, foretell weather……as our narrator explains, DUTCH sea rats are the worst!
