This document discusses the use of simple modals and phrasal modals in English to express different beliefs, attitudes, social purposes, likelihood, and time. Simple modals can refer to things that are generally true, currently true or in progress, or future actions. Phrasal modals include a helping verb of have or be and show time through the correct past, present, or future form of those verbs. Examples are provided to illustrate expressing ability, obligations, advice, requests, permission, likelihood, and reference to past, present and future time.
