The Smart Board lesson plan that I selected is a game
board template that I can use for any subject. Below is a
link to the lesson plan. Here, the students have their
own game pieces that they can use individually or get
into teams to use. Once game pieces are selected, the
students will pick questions from the question board.
Once these questions are answered, they are thrown
away, so that they cannot be answered again. If the
students answer the question correctly then they will
get to move to the spot the question was labeled. The
team to finish first, wins the game.
Target Learners &
Universal Design As a special education major, my target learners for this
lesson plan would most likely be my future students. I plan
to teach mild to moderate students at the Jr. High level, so
these students would be my target learners. As far as access
and ability to using this lesson plan, it would be very easy to
do for all students. All the students can visibly see the game
board on the Smart Board, and can use the Smart Board
cursor to select game pieces to move or to select questions
to answer in order to complete the game. If a student is not
able to walk up and move the cursor, then other students or
I could complete the tasks of moving game pieces and
selecting questions for them, while still having them answer
the question through verbal or body communication. Thus,
making the game easily accessible to all students and thus
supporting Universal Design, or the production of
environments that are inherently accessible to older people
and people with and without disabilities.
Overview
As far as content goes, this lesson plan would be a
great tool to use for review sessions or even teaching
lessons. The students will not only be having fun
because they are playing a virtual board game in
class but they would also be engaged and focused
because they would want to win the game. I would
use this lesson plan before tests to help students
study and retain their knowledge about what our
test is over. I would also use this lesson plan after
important lessons so that it would help students
retain the important material that they just learned.
