This document discusses the design of multifunctional nanocarriers for delivery of anti-cancer therapy. It reviews how smart and intelligent multifunctional nanocarriers based on dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles, liposomes and other nanomaterials can be used to deliver chemotherapeutic agents for cancer treatment in a targeted manner. Specifically, it discusses how these nanocarriers can be functionalized with targeting ligands and polymers to selectively deliver drugs to cancer cells while avoiding healthy tissues, reducing side effects and improving therapeutic outcomes for chemotherapy.
