Banco BPI implemented Scrum across its IT organization between 2010-2013, starting with strategic projects and new developments before expanding to application maintenance. Over this period the number of Scrum teams grew from 16 to 50 teams and staff from 100 to 320 people. Key aspects of the implementation included training, certifying product owners and Scrum masters, using metrics and dashboards, and focusing on continuous improvement through coaching. Critical success factors were organizational ownership and accountability, teamwork, discipline, and resilience to increase productivity, reliability, quality and meet customer needs.
