7 Logical FallaciesBy: David Lawson
Circular ReasoningCircular reasoning uses a series of facts to reach a false conclusion.Stating that someone hates rainbows therefore they hate gay people is an example of circular reasoning. Here is an example of Circular reasoning.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anKkX1wvgBw
Faulty use of AuthorityFaulty use of authority is when an expert in one field of expertise makes a statement about another field of expertise.Like if a Dentist stated that “Having a spray on tan and acting like a douche bag will make you live longer”
Bandwagon AppealBandwagon appeal is pretty much peer pressure. It’s using the fact that everyone is doing something and you need to follow suit or be left out. Here is an Examplehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz0N-jVrRWU
Hasty GeneralizationHasty generalization is coming to a conclusion based on insufficient evidence or facts.Like stating a professional athlete does steroids cause his cousin goes to the same gym as Roger Clemens’ trainerOr the famous “If the glove don’t fit, you must acquit.”
Slippery SlopeSlippery slope is the excuse people always use. Stating that one event will spawn a downfall.Like stating that if we legalize marijuana we will become a society full of irresponsible stonershttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yl8FhFP05A0&feature=related
