Lesson 1.5 WarmUp:
Evaluate:
1) 40    23
      4  +  3(2)2
2) 36    2(1  +  3)2
3) Write the algebraic expression for:
       five more than s squared
Find the missing value & name the property used.
4) 125x  =  125
5) 4  1/3        3/13  =  x

Lesson 1.5:
*equation a sentence that contains an equals sign
3x + 7 = 13 (expression>3x + 7)
*solution any number(s) that make an equation true.
FYI...an equation that is true for every value of the variable is called
an "identity". Therefore, the solution is "any real number".
To SOLVE EQUATIONS ISOLATE the VARIABLE
*simplify any parts of the equation first...
[distribute, combine like terms, etc.]
....and "undo" the add/subt before the mult/div!

Lesson 1.5 examples:
*Solve each equation.  Show all steps!
A) n    10  =  23
B) 7  =  c/2
C) 29  =  3x    7

D) (k 8)12 = 84
E) (18 4) + m = (5 3)m

F) 2d + (23 5) = 10(5 2) + d(12 6)
G) 6k + (3 10 8) = (2 3)k + 22

Make a table of values for each equation using the set {2, 1, 0, 1, 2}
H) y = 4x 2
I) 3x + 2 = y
