WHAT IS
CONCOCTION?
 the process of preparing a medicine, food or other
substance out of many ingredients, and also the result
of such a process.
 Botanical concoctions are derived from mixing and fermenting vegetables,
banana, banana stem, fish, molasses, and other available natural resources
from within the farm.
 For plants, concoctions can be used to:
(1) hasten decomposition process of the waste materials (to be used as soil fertilizer),
(2) to increase the rate of plant growth (due to the presence of auxin hormones),
(3) used as pesticide (when mixed with PAN-TA-C (Panyawan, Tobacco, and Chili)
7 Different Types of
Concoctions
1. FAA – Fish Amino Acid
2. FFJ – Fermented Fruit Juice
3. FPJ – Fermented Plant Juice
4. IMO - Indigenous micro-organism
5. LABS – Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum
6. CalPhos – Calcium Phosphate
7. OHN – Oriental Herb Nutrient
Cut up 1 kg fish and mix
with 1 kg molasses
Place the mixture inside a
plastic pail, cover with
manila paper and tie with
strings.
Place the pail in a dry cool place
Label accordingly. Ferment for 15 days.
(name concoction, date process, date
harvest)
Ratio 1:1
Fermentation – 15 days
1. Fish Amino Acid - FAA
• How to use:
Mix 2 tbsp to 1 liter
unchlorinated water.
Use early morning or late
afternoon.
• What FAA does
Good source of Nitrogen
Foliar fertilizer
Root hormone
Food for microorganisms
2. Fermented Fruit Juice - FFJ
• Ratio 1:1
• Fermentation – 7 days
• Watermelon, Papaya (seeds not included), Banana, Squash
Slice the whole fruit meat
Place the sliced fruit in a
plastic pail, add 1 liter
molasses and mix
thoroughly
Cover the pail with clean
paper, tie it with string and
place in a cool dry place
Label the pail properly and
indicate starting date and
date of harvest
2. Fermented Fruit Juice - FFJ
• How to use:
Mix 2 tbsp to 1 liter unchlorinated
water.
Can be used as foliar or soil drench.
Use early morning or late afternoon.
• What FFJ does
Increases plant nutrition through
leaves and roots with potassium
factors
Sweetens the fruit
Helps digestion of animals and
plant nutrients
Resists plant disease and protect
plants from insects
Speeds harvesting
Is a plant hormone
9. Concoctions and Extracts.pptx PRESENT
3. Fermented Plant Juice - FPJ
• Ratio 1:1:5
• Fermentation – 7 days
• Camote tops, kangkong, banana trunk
Harvest 2 kg of desired plants
before sunrise to preserve its
energy. Do not wash the plant and
shared as finely as possible.
Place molasses and plant material
in the pail. Mix well.
Fill the container up to ¾ full only.
Cover the pail. Tie it and place in a
cool dry place. Label accordingly.
Strain the transfer in a clean
container. Wait till tiny bubbles
disappear the container tightly (after
7 days).
Label the pail properly and indicate
starting date and date of harvest
3. Fermented Plant Juice - FPJ
• How to use:
Mix 2 tbsp to 1 liter
unchlorinated water.
May be used as foliar spray or
soil drench
May also be used with another
fermented extracts
Spray early in the morning or
late afternoon
• What FPJ does
Food for indigenous
microorganism
Enhances plant growth
Enhances photosynthesis
(green leaves)
9. Concoctions and Extracts.pptx PRESENT
4. Indigenous micro-organism (IMO)
Place about 2 inches cooked rice in a
plastic basin (or 1 kg cooked cool rice)
Cover the plastic basin with paper and
plastic. Label accordingly as to kind, date
started, expected date.
Get old decomposing leaves with plenty of
white fungi from either the forest or a
bamboo groove and put into a large
container. Place the covered plastic basin
into that container.
Cover the bundle with leaves. Place a
heavy cover to protect your bundle from
animals.
After 5 days, molds should appear on top
of the rice.
Add 1 liter molasses or brown sugar and
very gently mix with your hands.
Label accordingly.
After 7 days, the rice will begin to look
watery.
Sieve the liquid and place in a container
and label accordingly.
• How to use:
Mix 2 tbsp to 1 liter
unchlorinated water, may be
with other concoctions.
May be used as foliar spray or
soil drench.
Use early in the morning or late
afternoon.
Can keep for one year
• What IMO does
Revives soil nutrients
Speed composting
Speed plant growth
Balances beneficial and non-
beneficial micro-organism
4. Indigenous micro-organism (IMO)
9. Concoctions and Extracts.pptx PRESENT
5. Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS)
Place about 500 ml 1st rice wash
(kinilis) in a plastic container
Cover with clean paper, tie with
string and label
Place in a cool dark place
After 5-7 days, when the bean has
risen, take about 100 ml clear water
Place 100 ml rice water in a plastic
container and add 900 ml fresh milk
Label container and put back in a
cool dark place
After 3—5 days, if the whey (yellow
liquid) has separated from the white
curdled portion, decant and use the
whey only
Add molasses or brown sugar in a
1:1 ratio to preserve the LABS for a
long period
Place in a proper container and
label accordingly.
• How to use: (Same IMO)
Use with other concoctions, 2
tbsp/liter of water
Appy early morning or late
afternoon
• What LABS does
Convert waste into organic
matters and basic minerals
Thrive and feed on the
ammonia released in the
decomposition normally
associated with foul odor
Defense against viruses and
fungi
5. Lactic Acid Bacteria Serum (LABS)
Spray 80 ml → 4 babuyang
walang amoy or 8:1:1
9. Concoctions and Extracts.pptx PRESENT
6. Calcium Phosphate (Calphos)
Animal bones
Boil 1 kg to take out the meat and
fats
Broil till blackened
Crush and place in a plastic
container
Pure white vinegar
Add 9 liters of of vinegar (not
commercial)
Cover the plastic pail with manila
paper
Tie with string, ferment for 30 days
Use
2 tbsp to 1 liter unchlorinated water
When the plants are about to flower

7. Oriental Herb Nutrient
Ingredients:
• 2.5 Kgs. Ginger or Garlic
• 2.5 L Beer
• 5 L Molasses
• 4Lgin (1st Extraction)
• 4Lgin (2nd Extraction)
• 4Lgin (3rd Extraction)
Procedure:
Crushed siling labuyo, makabuhay and neem tree fruits or
leaves and marigold (control nematodes) for stronger
potency
Benefits:
• To develop the immune
system of your plants and
animals.
• To control crawling
pest(ginger)
7. Oriental Herbal Nutrient
Uses of Different OHN
Ingredients:
• Garlic – For animals as antibiotic anti-parasitic
