- 2. 1 – OPENING REMARKS & WELCOME Hello, my name is Harriette Cole, and I’ll be your host this afternoon. In January I joined Ebony as Creative Director and it gives me great pleasure to be in a position to welcome you to the eighth annual Outstanding Women in Marketing and Communications Awards Luncheon For those of you who have attended this event over the years, I hope you like our new home, at Cipriani’s. It’s a nice change of scenery don’t you agree? (APPLAUSE) Let’s also acknowledge our wonderful sponsors McDonalds, Johnson & Johnsons, Sam’s Club, RR Donnelley and Delta Airlines for their generosity (APPLAUSE )
- 3. 2 - OPENING REMARKS & WELCOME The EBONY Outstanding Women In Marketing and Communication luncheon is a celebration. Today we acknowledge the major contributions our honorees make in the global marketplace and our community. Each year Ebony takes pride in showcasing the stories of women who have aspired to greatness, and become the recipients of merited favor.
- 4. 3 – OPENING REMARKS & WELCOME We applaud each one of them today for their against-all-odds determination and success. They are a beacon of hope to all of us--but especially to young women coming up the ranks, just entering the workforce, who benefit from the reinforcement of positive role models.
- 5. 4 – OPENING REMARKS & WELCOME It’s just wonderful to be a part of Ebony Magazine working with Linda Johnson Rice, and the many talented folks at Johnson Publishing Company. Over the past 6 decades Ebony Magazine has provided a positive, fair and balanced perspective of African American life, and helped us navigate through good and bad times
- 6. 5 – OPENING REMARKS & WELCOME Today you are going to see excellence manifest. These women are at the top of their game. The work they have undertaken ranges from managing multi billion dollar corporations and positioning cutting edge technology, to pondering a move into the white house as the FIRST, First lady.
- 7. 6 – OPENING REMARKS & WELCOME They are highly visible women who are ready not only for prime time, but they actually create work that appears on it. From the images you see on television selling your favorite brands, to hiring a diverse and qualified staff, these sisters are doing not only for themselves, but they are representing for us all! While we only have time to briefly acknowledge their accomplishments here, I encourage you to read each bio closely, pick up a copy of the July Ebony Magazine featuring this event, and Google them, for a good strong dose of inspiration.
- 8. 7 – Intro Linda Johnson Rice And while the names and faces of Ebony Outstanding Women change each year, there is one that remains constant ,and that is the illustrious President and CEO, of Johnson Publishing Co., Linda Johnson Rice. She, along with a gifted staff, continue to uphold a brilliant legacy we are all proud of. It gives me great pleasure to introduce Ms Linda Johnson Rice. Let’s give her a hand as she comes to the stage.
