The Rose-Hulman Digital Archives Project aims to digitize portions of the institute's archives for public access, including yearbooks, oral histories, and historical documents. Initiated in 2001, the project has successfully digitized a number of items but has faced challenges related to metadata and system transfers. Current progress includes digitization of 3 yearbooks, 1 oral history interview, and clips from the 1930s.

- 2. Goals To digitize a portion of the institute archives and make available online to the public. To make Rose-Hulman students, faculty, staff, alumni, and general public aware of the research materials available in the Institute Archives.

Items to digitize Yearbooks (from 1891 to the present) Oral History interviews (audio files with transcripts) 16 mm video clips from the 1930s & 1950s Registrars records from early 1900s Letter Press book Images Rose Thorn (School newspaper) Institute meeting minutes Other items of historical significance (e.g. Juliet Peddle Architectural Drawings).
- 4. Project beginnings Began in the summer of 2001 by student workers. So far we have digitized 15 yearbooks, 25 video clips, 1 oral interview, Juliet Peddle drawings, letter press book, registrar records from late 1800s to early 1900s, some of the early meeting minutes.
- 5. Early problems Front end never worked properly. Standards were not adhered to. (not a problem with items, but was a problem with metadata. Database info was not easily transferable.
- 6. Conversion Process Rename all files before transferring. Recreate all metadata for each item. Transferring all work over to new system will take at least a year.
