This document presents a new routing algorithm called the Hotspot-Preventive Routing Algorithm (HPRA) that uses artificial neural networks to predict upcoming traffic hotspots in a network-on-chip. The algorithm aims to proactively route packets to prevent hotspots from occurring and improve network throughput. The neural networks are first trained offline and then gather online data to predict hotspots and inform the routing algorithm. Additional training is done with data after the algorithm acts, improving prediction accuracy over time. Evaluation shows the algorithm improves network throughput by up to 81% compared to prior methods.
