This document presents a new method for extracting the equivalent model parameters of on-chip spiral inductors. The method derives frequency-dependent expressions for the components of the inductor's 2-port Y-parameter equivalent circuit model by simplifying the model's equations. The frequencies at which the parameters are evaluated are selected based on an analysis of how the components influence the inductor's quality factor and inductance. The method was validated by comparing extracted models to measurements of inductors fabricated in a 0.35 micron process, showing good agreement up to 10 GHz.
