Hawkesdale P12 College Date – Wednesday 20 th August 2008 Time - 10.00am Temperature – 13 degrees Celsius Weather – a little overcast and quite chilly Season – Winter (but only for another 11 days. Bring on spring!) Clothing – We are wearing our winter uniforms Lunches – Mostly the usual sandwiches, but we are toasting them in our sandwich maker in our classroom. Hot food is delicious on these cold days. Weekends? – many of us are involved in winter sport competition as the local football/netball competition heads into the finals season.
Why did we choose this spot? We selected this spot because it shows you a part of the school, and the Chinese Tea House where we sometimes sit at lunch time or recess time, so it is a happy place for us. We also chose this spot because you can see our flag poles on which we fly the Australian flag, the Aboriginal flag or the Victorian flag. We also chose this spot because hopefully there are some seasonal changes which will be obvious as the project gets going. What change can you expect to see? This photo shows the winter neglect of our garden beds (because it has been way too wet and cold to get out into the garden) and the messy lawns – because it has been too wet to get a lawn mower onto the grass. Hopefully you will see a much tidier garden and neater lawns in the next few photos. You can also expect to see blossom on the trees, daffodils in the garden bed and roses on the bushes. You may even see some children playing in the yard as the sun comes out. Why this spot? Cockatoos in our yard.
What was happening in our lives? Belinda –Our extensions have come to a standstill due to the rain. Josh- A lot of our cows died. Joshuah-I ride the push bike every 2 week. Jayden- Dad Is now delivering hay all over Victoria. Rachel-I usually play netball on the weekend but I don’t now because there are finals. Chloe- We are shopping and packing to get ready for our Melbourne camp. Rachael- My netball team is playing in the finals. Bailey-Fox hunting season has finished and it is football finals! Cody-My place is under water and the tanks are overflowing. Shiloh-We moved to a new house in Warrnambool but I still go to Hawkesdale College. Georgia-My netball team is playing in the finals. Jess-I got a new puppy named Zink. Hailey – My car broke down when I was on the way to netball. Ashley – has been away for 4 days. He is sick with a cold. Harvey- It is lamb marking time. Grace I can’t wait till my brother comes back (Charlie). Kirsten- My netball team is in the grand final. Tzigane – Most of my family has been sick because of the weather. George- I’m going to Sydney to play tennis. Katie- I have been having fun with my cousin and getting ready for the Melbourne camp. Bradley –I am looking forward to going to Melbourne on our camp. Ms. Murnane – I am looking forward to the Melbourne camp as well.
What’s happening around Hawkesdale? It is very muddy at the moment because of regular rain. It is lambing season on the farms. This means that lambs are being born. It also means that it is lamb marking time. This is rather grisly. The farmers chop off the lamb’s tail and then puts rings around the testes of the male lambs so that they do not grow into rams. The male lambs are then called weathers and the female sheep are called ewes. The local Aussie rules football / netball competition is heading towards finals. We are counting down until our Melbourne Camp next week. We are leaving on Wednesday 27 th August and coming back on the 29 th August. Blossom trees are in bud and we are anxiously awaiting the warmer weather of Spring. Hawkesdale is getting a new shop. It is going to sell motors and equipment for motor boats and motorbikes. Father’s day is coming up in September.
