This proposal examines language brokering among Mexican immigrant families living in the Midwest through a multiple case study. The proposal begins with an introduction that provides background on immigration trends in the U.S., the heterogeneity of Latino immigrants, and the acculturation process immigrant families experience. It then discusses language brokering, which involves children translating and interpreting for their non-English speaking parents and family members in various situations. While language brokering is common, research on its impact on immigrant families is limited. The proposal aims to address this gap through a qualitative multiple case study exploring the experiences of language brokers and their families.
