Seattle of Washington state is known to be the largest city in the Pacific
Northwest region of the U.S. The Seattle metropolitan area has over 3.4
million inhabitants, making it the 15th largest metropolitan area in the
country. It serves as a main trading port with Asia, making it the 6th
busiest port in the U.S. Known for its humid summers and mild winters,
Seattle is home to many avid outdoor sports. This makes the city ideal
for outdoor recreational activities such as motor boating, kayaking,
mountain climbing, swimming, and cycling all throughout the year.
The history of Seattle is known to contain musical greats.

                                          The International District and
                                          Jackson Street were homes to
over 24 great jazz clubs from
                                          1918 to 1951. Seattle gave
birth to some of the greatest
                                          jazz names from Quincy Jones
                                          and Ray Charles to Ernestine
                                          Anderson and many more.
                                          Rock superstar Jimi Hendrix
                                          and the “grunge” rock music
                                          genre with Nirvana, Melvins,
Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains
all started in this city as well.

A short history of Seattle:

Around four thousand years before the first white pioneers from Europe
entered the land which is now known as Seattle, Native Americans lived
there. The first European who was ever recorded to have visited the area
was George Vancouver in May 1792. Arthur A. Denny and his group of
travelers reached Alki Point in November 13, 1851. The land was called
“Seattle,” from the name of the Native American Duwamish and
Suquamish tribe chief.

Logging was the first main industry of Seattle until it became a
commercial and shipbuilding center in the late 19th century for the
Klondike Gold Rush.

Seattle became one of the 25 biggest cities in the United States in 1910.
After it suffered from the Great Depression, it got its momentum back in
World War II as the hub for the aircraft industry by the Boeing
Company. Around the 1980s, Seattle turned into becoming a technology
hub and expanded economic growth with the development of
biotechnology, internet companies, and new software. Nowadays, the
city is known to be a center for the environment friendly industry and an
example for sustainable progress.
