A2 PreliminaryTask
Evaluation

Skills
At the start of this small preliminary task I aimed to develop my creative skills, camera work skills
and also my editing skills. As we worked in a group, workload was shared out between us and we all
were able to have a go at trying out everything that we did in creating the final product.
In my opinion the outcome of this aim was successful, because I feel like I have definitely learnt
something from this task. As we worked as a group, each person had their individual strengths and
weaknesses and we all decided that we should use our own strengths to help develop another
person’s weaknesses.
I was able to record some footage using just the handheld camera movement to create a realistic
shaky effect, and I also managed to use the new shoulder mount and slider which we have within
our media department. Both of these pieces of equipment were able to give us a steady images as
we followed the characters. All of these can be seen within the video, and are screenshot below.
Teamwork WithinThe Group
As I have previously mentioned, we worked in a group for this task. It it
therefore of the upmost importance that we all worked well together and all
had something to do at all times in order to be efficient and also effective.
We planned out everything that we were going to do in terms of production
wise, for example a storyboard was created that showed us what shots needed
to be recorded and how they were to be taken. This then gave us something to
work towards and we could keep referring back to these planning documents.
As a result of sharing out the workload, everyone within the group working
well within the team environment and our planning it did not really take us
long at all to complete the task from start to finish. The progression through
was at a steady speed and never slowed down at all.
By working in a team for this task and realising how much difference it makes
with progression, I am now questioning whether or not I should work as a pair
for my main piece of work as this is now an option for the A2 course.
Creativity
The A2 media coursework is all about creativity and challenging what it actually is
and how it can be demonstrated.
The research and planning for this task was rushed; it was a small preliminary task
in of which has just been done to help to develop our skills. However I still believe
that besides the amateur quality of the project, it is still a creative piece of work.
Based on the story and narrative I would say that it is creative, as it is not an
ordinary, standard concept. The story being that a man being raided for drug
related activities is actually buying flowers for his partner.
I think we could, in some areas however, have been more creative. For example the
planning and time taken to think about how it would be could have been done and
constructed more creatively.
Improvements
In order to meet the requirements of the exam board’s level four grade,
improvements would have to be made.
First of all, the group would have to complete a sufficient amount of ’excellent’
research and planning. From there onwards we would have to make better use of
our blogs in order to show our progression journey from the very start of research
and planning to the very end of the evaluation.
The actual product itself would also have to be improved in order to fit and match
up with the criteria of the level 4 mark scheme. The purpose of this preliminary task
was just to help improve and develop our existing skills.
