Aalto University will be formed in 2010 through the full merger of three leading Finnish universities - the Helsinki School of Economics, University of Art and Design Helsinki, and Helsinki University of Technology. The goal is for Aalto University to be one of the top international universities in its fields by 2020. It will benefit from increased resources and autonomy through its independent governance structure. Studying and research at Aalto University will bring together the three disciplines in unique ways through initiatives like new "Factories" encouraging cross-disciplinary learning, teaching, and research collaboration.
