This document presents a study on the access and uptake of professional development activities among health sciences academics in South Africa, focusing on factors that enable or constrain participation. The study involved an electronic survey of 145 faculty members, examining their teaching experience, professional development undertaken, and factors influencing their participation. Key findings indicate that significant barriers include workload and the perceived relevance of the offered opportunities, highlighting the need for clearer recognition and support for teaching roles within institutions.
