Dumont High School has seen declining average SAT scores over the last three years. They have identified three primary problems: 1) the current SAT preparation classes focus on content knowledge rather than test-taking skills, 2) the 10th and 11th grade curricula do not include SAT test preparation, and 3) many students do not see the SAT as important or plan to take external preparation courses. Possible solutions discussed include revising the SAT preparation class and curricula, but funding is limited. A survey found over 50 sophomores would take a professional SAT course during the school day to allow participation in extracurriculars.
