This document provides an updated framework for active aging policies in response to increased longevity around the world. It summarizes the original 2002 WHO framework, which defined active aging as optimizing opportunities for health, participation, and security over people's lifespans. The framework has since guided aging policies internationally and in many countries. However, with 15 more years of data and experience, an update is needed. The updated framework incorporates new concepts and evidence to further an approach that empowers individuals to pursue fulfilling and resilient lives as they age.
