- 3. 3 The ADA and State/Local Building Codes The ADA and State/Local Building Codes • Which One to Comply with? • Properties must comply with both State & Federal Regulation • What does this mean for shopping centers? – In each state, we must look at BOTH the State Building Code and the ADA when designing, constructing or altering shopping centers and use the most “restrictive” requirements from each.
