1 Blog Architecture and Blogging- Uniqueness and structure of
Blogs
A Blog is a collection of articles that provides educational, informative, remarkable content
to the target audience.
Blogging is the act of posting content on a blog (a Web log or online journal) or posting
comments on someone else's blog. A blog (a truncation of the expression web log) is a
discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of
discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most
recent post appears first.
1.1 Uniqueness of Blog
There are many great writers who have unsuccessful blogs. Here’s why. They may be
great writers, but they are not great bloggers. There’s a big difference. Here are eight
ways that blog writing differs from how you might write in school or at work.
1.1.1 Headlines matter a lot
Nobody is going to sit by the fireplace with a glass of wine and relax with a good blog
post. Blog readers are SKIMMERS. More than likely they are scanning their inbox or blog
reader to figure out what posts are worthy. So, a headline that says “My views on soap”
or “Thinking back” are not going to cut it. You have to GRAB ‘em and make them read.
Here are characteristics of great headlines:
â–Ș Catchy
â–Ș Descriptive
â–Ș Accurate
â–Ș Contains keyword
â–Ș Tweetable (short)
Also, any headline that indicates a numbered list is going to attract more eyeballs. Busy
readers like lists.
1.1.2 Write upside down
In school, we are taught to write linearly. A beginning, middle, an end. That does not work
on blogs. You have to tell the ending first. I call that writing upside down. Busy readers
are going to be bored and frustrated if you don’t tell them exactly why they are there and
what the pay-off is. So start with the end
 and then explain it.
1.1.3 Keep it short.
You have to EARN the right to go long. If you are Malcolm Glad well, you have earned
the right to go long. If you are just starting to build your audience, don’t challenge them
4

with long posts unless it is something extraordinary. Somewhere between 500 and 1,000
words is golden.
1.1.4 Use sub headings
A sub-heading is like a mini headline – like what you see above this sentence. Subheads
draw attention down the length of the blog post and breaks up the block of gray. This is
especially important in a challenging reading environment like a smart phone.
1.1.5 Use your original voice
In journalism school I was taught to keep my “voice” OUT of my writing. Just stick to the
facts. The best blog writing weaves your personal narrative into the discussion and lets
your personality shine. When somebody wants to write a guest post for {grow}
I challenge them to write a post that ONLY they could write. Dig deep. Be you. That is the
heart of originality and that is the source of blogging success!
1.1.6 Keep it RITE
This is easy to remember. Try to make every blog post RITE
â–Ș R - Relevant
â–Ș I - Interesting
â–Ș T - Timely and
â–Ș E - Entertaining.
If you can do that consistently, you will be creating share-able blog content.
1.1.7 Be conversational.
Throw the rules out the door. Write like you speak. Even. If. It’s. Choppy. After you have
written your blog post, read it out loud. If it doesn’t sound like you simply talking to your
audience, lighten it up. Just tell them the story.
1.1.8 End with a question
If you want to encourage comments and engagement, you don’t have to have all the
answers. You just have to ask the right questions. Although you wouldn’t normally end a
whitepaper or news article with a question, it makes perfect sense for a blog.

1.2 Structure of blogs
A basic project blog contains two sections:
â–Ș The header section contains the abstract, start date, proposed or actual end date
and the current status of the project
â–Ș The milestones section contains a list of blog posts recording the background
stories, development, ideas, research process and outcome of the project. Each
of this Milestone post has a title, body text, date and comment section (for dialog
with the blog visitors), as a regular blog post.
Five simple steps to structure a great blog post
1. Choose an intriguing title.
2. Start with a punchy first line.
3. Keep it short and structured.
4. Break up text with bullet points, lists and pictures.
5. Provide useful links.
1.3 BlogSpot and Blog Architecture
BlogSpot is the free Web hosting service available for the web developers. The authentic
name of the service is Blogger. Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user
logs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by
Google in 2003. When you create a Website or Blog on Blogger. The blogs are hosted
by Google at a sub domain of blogspot.com. When you want to create a Website or blog
so you have to go to Blogger.com.
To start using Blogger, simply sign in with your Google Account. (If you use Gmail, or
Google Groups, you already have an account.) If you don't have a Google Account yet,
you can create one now.
Creating a comprehensive guide to the architecture features of Google BlogSpot (also

1.4 Integrating Social Media Widgets
There are several creative ways you can use to integrate social media into your blog.
Here are some of the techniques you may use to connect your blog with social media.
1.4.1 Add Social Media Buttons
By adding social buttons on your blog, you invite people to see what is going on those
social media platforms with your blog. All the social media platforms do provide you simple
piece of code that you can use to display those buttons on your blog.
1.4.2 Add Social Sharing widgets
Social sharing widgets help your readers share the content of your blog with their friends.
If they like the content, they will love to share it with others. By having the social sharing
widgets, you make it easier for them and hence increase the chances of sharing.
1.4.3 Like, Share and Follow
All your readers are not the same. Some people hit the like button if they love the content
while others use the share button to share the content with others. They may also use the
8

follow button to keep in touch with your blog on their favourite social media platform. Thus,
it is important for you to choose the options carefully.
Which Social Media Platform You Should Choose
1. Facebook
2. Twitter
3. Youtube
4. LinkedIn
5. Instagram
6. Threads
1.5 Activity Feed
The Activity Feed shows all of the recent activity on a website to anyone, whether or not
they are logged into Face book. The Activity Feed box will start with activity on a website
by a user’s friends (if they are logged in), and also can show the number of times certain
content on the website has been recommended.
This will help guide logged in Face book users to the
items that their friends have liked as well as the top
items that others like. To add the Activity Feed box,
visit the documentation page, enter your website’s
domain, and customize options such as the size,
header, colors, and font. Then check whether you
want to show recommendations and get the code to
place on your website.
1.5.1 Like Box
The Like Box allows website owners who have Facebook fan pages to see how many
users are fans of their page on Facebook, see recent Facebook fan page posts, and like
the fan page directly from their website.
9

To place a Like Box for your website’s fan page on your
website, visit the documentation page, enter your fan
page URL, customize the design options, and get the
code to place on your website.
1.5.2 Comments
The Comments plugin allows you to incorporate Facebook comments onto any part of
your website.
This can be a great way for a static website to
incorporate comments onto a feedback or other
interactive page on their website. Why use
Facebook comments? Some users will prefer to
simply comment with Facebook because they
won’t have to fill out any other information or
register.
Users also have the option to publish the
comment to their profile, which will include their
comment plus a link to the page they are
commenting upon. This is a great way to expose
your page to a Facebook user’s friends through their news feed.
The catch with the Comments plugin is that you have to take an additional step beyond
just getting the code from the plugin’s documentation page. First, you must register your
website as an application with Facebook by creating an application. You will start by
entering the App Name as your website or company name and agree to the Facebook
terms and conditions.
1.5.3 Facepile
The Facepile plugin allows you to show a row of users that have liked your page or
connect to your site through the Login Button via the website’s application ID.
10

©Jayakumar K, 2024-25
While this is a simple way to show how many people have
liked or connected with your page, it is (in my opinion) not
any stronger than the Like Button, and certainly not more
powerful than the Activity Feed or Recommendations
box.
1.5.4 Live Stream
The Live Stream plugin allows you to create a real-time chat for users on your website or
connected through your website’s application.
This plugin is useful when you are holding an
event, such as a webcast, webinar, or online class.
I haven’t seen any Live Stream applications in
action, but it does sound like a good concept. You
can learn how to implement this on your site on the
plugin’s documentation page.
1.6 Alternative form of Blogging - Tumblr, Flickr, YouTube, etc.
1.6.1 Tumbler
Tumblr is known for informal micro-blogging, a form of blogging that is longer than a Tweet
but not as long or professional as a full-blown article or post. Tumblr users share content
that is mostly visual: pictures, videos, links, and/or info graphics. A Tumblr account is
ideal for first-time users looking to start posting instantly, but not commit to a full-time
project.
1.6.2 Flicker
Flickr (pronounced "flicker") is an image hosting and video hosting website, and web
services suite that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo in 2005. In
addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs,
and effectively an online community, the service is widely used by photo researchers and
by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media.
1.6.3 You tube
A video blog or video log, sometimes shortened to vlog, is a form of blog for which the
medium is video, and is a form of web television. Vlog entries often combine embedded
video (or a video link) with supporting text, images, and other metadata. Entries can be
recorded in one take or cut into multiple parts. The vlog category is popular on YouTube.
11

Video logs (vlogs) also often take advantage of web syndication to allow for the
distribution of video over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats,
for automatic aggregation and playback on mobile devices and personal computers
(See video podcast).
A video log created while riding a motorcycle is known as a motovlog (abbreviation
of motorcycle video log).
1.7 Income generation modes - AdSense, and referral marketing.
1.7.1 Adsense & Blogging
Blogger provides a simple way for you to make money with your blog. AdSense is
Google's content-targeted advertising program. If you use AdSense, you don't have to
select keywords or categories for your ads. Instead, Google's servers determine what
your posts are about and display the most relevant ads to your readers
Blogger requests access to your AdSense account so that we can automatically create
and place ad code on your page through our layouts and template tools. As a result of
this, you might notice that Blogger is receiving "0%" of your AdSense earnings - this
means that you will receive the same amount for clicks or impressions as you would
creating the ad code from your AdSense account.
To view any partners that have requested access to your AdSense account, and their
associated revenue shares, please log in to your AdSense account, click the Home tab,
choose the Account settings sub-tab and go to “3rd-party access.” If you see an "enable
access" link next to blogger.com, you must click this link in order to create ads with
Blogger tools.
To take full advantage of other AdSense options and settings, such as managing the
types of ads that appear on your blog, you can sign in to the AdSense site and have a
look around. That's where you can see how much money your ads are earning and
manage your account.
1.7.2 Referral Marketing
Referral marketing is one of most useful tools in any businesses tool box, however it is
important to point out that not only social media can help your company online. An
important aspect of making a good impression on a potential customer is use of inbound
marketing, or using pull method to gain new audience. This would include your company’s
use of blogs to show potential customer things that y would gain from choosing your
company to give ir business. This is an opportunity for your company to showcase
differences from competitors

1.8 Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques for Bloggers
Search Engine Optimization is something that makes many blogger’s heads spin – I know
this because every time I write an SEO article I get comments from bloggers telling me
that its too big a topic and that they’d rather just write ‘quality content’.
1.8.1 Off Site SEO Techniques
Offsite SEO techniques are as the name suggests factors from outside the site itself (ie
from other sites) that impact the blog’s ranking in search engines. Many of these factors
are outside the blogger’s control – however they are useful to know. The most obvious
and probably most powerful offsite factor are Inbound Links
It is generally agreed that the links that point to a website are one of the most powerful
way of climbing Search Engines results pages (in fact many argue it is THE most
important factor). – To put it most simply – every link to your site is seen by the search
engines as being a vote of confidence in your site.
The best inbound links have three main qualities to them:
1. they are from higher ranked sites than your own
2. they are relevant to the topic you are writing about
3. they link to you using relevant keywords to your page
How to generate quality inbound Links?
‱ Quality Content – There are all kinds of link generating systems out there but the
best way to get links to your blog is to write quality content that people will want to
read. You can solicit links with others or sign up for different link building programs
or even buy text links on other sites but the cheapest and probably safest approach
is to build inbound links in a natural organic way as others link to your quality
content.
‱ Notify Relevant Bloggers of your content – Whilst I don’t advocate spamming
other bloggers and asking for links – I would recommend that if you write a quality
post on a topic that you know will interest another blogger that it might be worth
shooting them a short and polite email letting them know of your post. Don’t be
offended if they don’t link up, but you might just find that they do and that in addition
to the direct traffic that the link generates that it helps build your own page rank in
the search engines (more on letting other bloggers know of your posts here).
‱ Directories – Another way to generating inbound links is to submit your links to
directories. I know of webmasters who swear by the benefits of such a strategy –
the first thing that they do when starting a new site is to do the rounds of directories
– submitting links to key pages with appropriate keywords in the links. There are
13
Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM)
©Jayakumar K, 2024-25
loads of directories out there – many of which offer a free submission. Ari Paparo
has compiled a list of blog directories that you might want to start with.
‱ Inter-link your Blogs – Increasingly bloggers are starting or joining blog networks
to enjoy the benefits of multiple sites and writers working together. One of the
advantages of networks of sites is that they usually link to one another. In doing
so you have complete control over how your sites are linked to from multiple
domains. It is worth noting that you should be careful with this approach – if all
your sites are hosted on the one server many think that Search Engines will work
out what you’re doing and the impact will be lessened.
‱ Buy Links – Many professional web masters have a budget to purchase links from
other highly ranked and and relevant sites. I won’t go into this too much here but
you might like to read more about it in my recent post On Buying Text
Links. update: I’d encourage anyone wanting to buy links to think very carefully
about this. Google have been cracking down on sites that use this practice. They
can’t catch everyone but some have been caught and seem to have been
penalized for doing it.
‱ Swap Links – Similarly many bloggers swap links with other bloggers. Sometimes
this happens pretty naturally (you see someone linking to you so you link back) but
in many cases the links are strategic ones and formally arranged between site
owners. I get daily requests for such reciprocal links (I rarely act on them). Whilst
there is some benefit in such link swapping I would again advise caution here as
many SEO experts believe that the search engines have methods for tracking such
strategies and devaluing the links. Some try to get around this by doing indirect or
triangulated links. ie instead of site A and B doign a direct swap they involve other
sites. So A links to C in exchange for D (also owned by C) linking to B (also owned
by A) – makes your head hurt doesn’t it!?! There are also a variety of systems
around that say they’ll take care of such interlinking for you – I know many who
use Digital Point’s Free C0-Op Advertising system. Personally I tend to avoid such
schemes and have a policy of linking to sites I think are valuable to my readers. If
they link back then so be it.
1.8.2 On Site SEO Techniques
Keyword Rich Content – identify a few keywords for your article that you’re hoping will
get indexed highly by Google.
These keywords will need to be the most common words used in your article. Use them
in some or all of the following ways:
â–Ș Keywords in post and page titles (read my post on using keywords in titles)
â–Ș Keywords in URL of page (blog herald wrote on this a while back)
14
Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM)
©Jayakumar K, 2024-25
â–Ș Keywords in outbound links (read this article on the pros and cons of outbound
links)
â–Ș Keywords in bold tags (try do it at least once)
â–Ș Keywords in heading tags (there is debate over exactly how to use them but it’s
generally accepted that h1 tags are important and that h2, h3, h4 etc tags also
have an impact. Having said that I’ve seen some pages rank very well in search
engines without using heading tags. There are many tutorials online about
heading tags – here’s one.)
â–Ș Keywords in image alt tags (here’s how)
â–Ș Keywords in the general throughout the text of your post – but especially early on
in the first few sentences
â–Ș Keywords in meta tags (they seem to be less valuable these days but many still
believe they are useful with some search engines – here’s a Guide to meta tags)
Themed sites – One of the growing theories of SEO is that you are more likely to rank
well if you have a substantial amount of pages on a similar theme. ie a niche topic blog
will probably rank higher than a general one that covers many topics. Build a blog with
over 200 pages of content on the same theme and you’ll increase your chances of ranking
well as SEs will see you as an authority on the topic. The take home advice here is to
keep to some kind of a topic/niche/theme for your blog. It is also probably another
argument for categories and tagging posts that relate together strongly.
Site Design – Search Engines like well laid out, well coded and easily to navigate sites.
Make sure your pages validate and that they are viewable on all major browsers. Search
Engines don’t tend to like too much Flash, Frames or Java Script in your site – keep it
simple and clean and their robots will index your site a lot faster and more accurately.
Also try to keep your blog free from dead links (a challenge for those of us with older blogs
with big archives).
Interlink your Site – The way Search Engines index your blog is to send little robot
crawlers to your site to track what you’ve written and follow the links. Make it easier for
them to get around your blog by using internal linking wisely. Most SEO experts
recommend that you provide some sort of Site Map that means every page on your blog
is just a link or two away from every other one. One way to do this for bloggers is to make
sure that your category pages are in your sidebars as I do in this blog. Also make sure
every page links back to your main page and any other important pages on your site. If
you’re writing on a topic you’ve previously written about consider linking to what you’ve
written before or use a ‘other relevant posts’ feature at the base of your article. You’ll see
in my menus at the top of the page a number of my key categories and articles. One of
the impacts of having them highlighted in this way is that they have become some of the
most highly ranked pages on ProBlogger simply because they are linked to from every
page of this blog.
15

Update regularly – The more you update your blog the more often Search Engines will
send their crawlers to your site to index it. This will mean your new articles could appear
in the index within days or even hours rather than weeks. This is a natural benefit of
blogging – make the most of it!
Outbound Links – There is debate over how SEs treat outbound links from your blog.
The relevant outbound links enhance your site’s ranking in search engines Linking to sites
outside your own blog does mean you end up sending traffic away from your blog so you
need to count the cost of such a strategy. Note that you should always try to link to
reputable and relevant sites to your own page. Also keep in mind that too many outbound
could have detrimental impact upon your blog. Like in most things in SEO – moderation
is the key.
Choose your domain name wisely – There are numerous factors to keep in mind when
selecting a domain name. For one you might like to include your keyword in it if possible.
Secondly you should do a little research to see if someone else has previously used the
domain. This could have both positive and negative impact. If it was a quality site with
inbound links you might reap some benefits but if it was a banned spam site you could
still be banned from Google for a long time. One service you might want to use to check
expired domains is Way Back Machine at Archive.org.
Register your Domain for a Lengthy Period – a recent patent by Google indicates that
it now looks at the length of your domain’s registration in ranking it. It does this because
many spam sites have short registrations and a longer one indicates that you’re building
a site with substance and are in it for the long haul.
One topic per post – the more tightly focused the theme of a page the better when
Search Engines come to rank it. Sometimes you might find yourself writing long posts
that end up covering a number of different topics. They might relate loosely but if search
engine ranking is what you’re after it could be better to break up your post into smaller
more focused pieces.
Write optimal length posts – there is some thought going around the Search Engine
Optimization community that pages that are too short can get passed over for high
rankings. On the other hand don’t make it too long either – because in doing so you make
it difficult to keep your keyword density up and could end up with a less tightly focused
page. Research also shows that longer articles can have a pretty steep drop off rate in
readers after the text gets below the ‘fold’ or to the end of the first screen of article .
Avoid Duplicate content – Google warns publishers in its guidelines about having the
same content on multiple pages. This goes for both multiple pages that you own but also
pages that others own. This is because a tactic of spammers is often to reproduce content
on many pages and/or to steel content from other sites. There is some debate over what
duplicate content does and doesn’t include (for instance many bloggers use ‘free articles’

as content on their blogs – these articles often appear on hundreds and even thousands
of other sites around the web and to me could be seen as duplicate content)
Ping – services like Pingomatic (there are numerous others too) will ping a variety of
websites for you to notify them that you’ve updated. In doing so you’ll also be letting
search engines know that you’ve updated which will trigger their robots to come visit your
blog.
RSS Feed and Search Engines’ impact –Submitting your RSS feed to Search Engine
can be an effective way to get indexed on Yahoo. This process helps Yahoo's indexing
systems to recognize your blog or website, potentially driving more traffic. Detailed
instructions and benefits can be found in the guide "Getting Yahoo Traffic for your Blog."
Additionally, it’s suggested that submitting your RSS feed to Google’s personalized pages
might offer similar benefits for Google indexing.
1.8.3 Latest Update from Google on Publication Pages:
Discontinuation of Manual Publication Addition: Starting from April 25, 2024,
publishers are no longer able to add new publications manually to the Publisher Center.
This change is part of Google's transition towards automatically created publication
pages, expected to roll out later this year.
Impact on Publishers:
â–Ș Customization Features: Publishers with existing manually created publication
pages will retain access to customization features until the automatic creation of
pages is fully implemented.
â–Ș Follow Feature: Users will still be able to follow their favorite publications even
after the shift to automatic publication pages.
1.8.4 Google News and News Surfaces:
Eligibility for Google News: Content from publishers that comply with Google’s content
policies will be automatically considered for Google News and other News surfaces.
Content Ranking: Having a publication listed in the Publisher Centre does not ensure its
appearance across Google surfaces. Google’s systems autonomously identify and rank
content based on several factors including relevance, prominence, authoritativeness,
freshness, location, and language. Further details on ranking criteria can be explored in
Google’s guidelines on "Ranking within Google News."
By staying updated with these changes, publishers can better align their strategies to
enhance their visibility and ranking on Google News and other platforms.
Quantities of Content ––Search Engines will see your site as more comprehensive the
more content you have. You also better your odds of being found in Search Engines if
17

you have more pages. just to put up random junk content – be careful about this – rather
work at building a comprehensive and large site over time.
Submit to Search Engines – You can do all the best onsite SEO strategies in the world
and still get nowhere because the Search Engines have not found you to start with. Each
search engine has a way of letting it know about your site – submit your URL to be
included in the index. Please note that this takes time and perhaps a quicker and more
effective way is to get linked to by a site already indexed by the search engine.
Submit to Google Publisher- Publisher Center is an interface that helps publishers
submit and manage their content in Google News, as well as configure monetization
solutions through Reader Revenue Manager.
Note: Publisher Centre Reader Revenue Manager is not currently available in India.
Conclusion: Google BlogSpot offers a robust set of features to help bloggers create,
manage, and optimize their blogs. From post creation to reader interaction, each
component plays a crucial role in building a successful blog. By understanding and
utilizing these features, bloggers can enhance their content and grow their audience
effectively.
If you need more detailed information or specific instructions on any of these features,
feel free to ask!
Note: Google's new documentation explains that publishers will be unable to do manual
submissions and that current publishers will continue to have access to the submission
tools but that those tools will be removed some time later in 2024.

  • 4. 3 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 1 Blog Architecture and Blogging- Uniqueness and structure of Blogs A Blog is a collection of articles that provides educational, informative, remarkable content to the target audience. Blogging is the act of posting content on a blog (a Web log or online journal) or posting comments on someone else's blog. A blog (a truncation of the expression web log) is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first. 1.1 Uniqueness of Blog There are many great writers who have unsuccessful blogs. Here’s why. They may be great writers, but they are not great bloggers. There’s a big difference. Here are eight ways that blog writing differs from how you might write in school or at work. 1.1.1 Headlines matter a lot Nobody is going to sit by the fireplace with a glass of wine and relax with a good blog post. Blog readers are SKIMMERS. More than likely they are scanning their inbox or blog reader to figure out what posts are worthy. So, a headline that says “My views on soap” or “Thinking back” are not going to cut it. You have to GRAB ‘em and make them read. Here are characteristics of great headlines: â–Ș Catchy â–Ș Descriptive â–Ș Accurate â–Ș Contains keyword â–Ș Tweetable (short) Also, any headline that indicates a numbered list is going to attract more eyeballs. Busy readers like lists. 1.1.2 Write upside down In school, we are taught to write linearly. A beginning, middle, an end. That does not work on blogs. You have to tell the ending first. I call that writing upside down. Busy readers are going to be bored and frustrated if you don’t tell them exactly why they are there and what the pay-off is. So start with the end
and then explain it. 1.1.3 Keep it short. You have to EARN the right to go long. If you are Malcolm Glad well, you have earned the right to go long. If you are just starting to build your audience, don’t challenge them
  • 5. 4 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 with long posts unless it is something extraordinary. Somewhere between 500 and 1,000 words is golden. 1.1.4 Use sub headings A sub-heading is like a mini headline – like what you see above this sentence. Subheads draw attention down the length of the blog post and breaks up the block of gray. This is especially important in a challenging reading environment like a smart phone. 1.1.5 Use your original voice In journalism school I was taught to keep my “voice” OUT of my writing. Just stick to the facts. The best blog writing weaves your personal narrative into the discussion and lets your personality shine. When somebody wants to write a guest post for {grow} I challenge them to write a post that ONLY they could write. Dig deep. Be you. That is the heart of originality and that is the source of blogging success! 1.1.6 Keep it RITE This is easy to remember. Try to make every blog post RITE â–Ș R - Relevant â–Ș I - Interesting â–Ș T - Timely and â–Ș E - Entertaining. If you can do that consistently, you will be creating share-able blog content. 1.1.7 Be conversational. Throw the rules out the door. Write like you speak. Even. If. It’s. Choppy. After you have written your blog post, read it out loud. If it doesn’t sound like you simply talking to your audience, lighten it up. Just tell them the story. 1.1.8 End with a question If you want to encourage comments and engagement, you don’t have to have all the answers. You just have to ask the right questions. Although you wouldn’t normally end a whitepaper or news article with a question, it makes perfect sense for a blog.
  • 6. 5 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 1.2 Structure of blogs A basic project blog contains two sections: â–Ș The header section contains the abstract, start date, proposed or actual end date and the current status of the project â–Ș The milestones section contains a list of blog posts recording the background stories, development, ideas, research process and outcome of the project. Each of this Milestone post has a title, body text, date and comment section (for dialog with the blog visitors), as a regular blog post. Five simple steps to structure a great blog post 1. Choose an intriguing title. 2. Start with a punchy first line. 3. Keep it short and structured. 4. Break up text with bullet points, lists and pictures. 5. Provide useful links. 1.3 BlogSpot and Blog Architecture BlogSpot is the free Web hosting service available for the web developers. The authentic name of the service is Blogger. Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user logs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. When you create a Website or Blog on Blogger. The blogs are hosted by Google at a sub domain of blogspot.com. When you want to create a Website or blog so you have to go to Blogger.com. To start using Blogger, simply sign in with your Google Account. (If you use Gmail, or Google Groups, you already have an account.) If you don't have a Google Account yet, you can create one now. Some people hit the like button if they love the content while others use the share button to share the content with others. They may also use the
  • 9. 8 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 follow button to keep in touch with your blog on their favourite social media platform. Thus, it is important for you to choose the options carefully. Which Social Media Platform You Should Choose 1. Facebook 2. Twitter 3. Youtube 4. LinkedIn 5. Instagram 6. Threads 1.5 Activity Feed The Activity Feed shows all of the recent activity on a website to anyone, whether or not they are logged into Face book. The Activity Feed box will start with activity on a website by a user’s friends (if they are logged in), and also can show the number of times certain content on the website has been recommended. This will help guide logged in Face book users to the items that their friends have liked as well as the top items that others like. To add the Activity Feed box, visit the documentation page, enter your website’s domain, and customize options such as the size, header, colors, and font. Then check whether you want to show recommendations and get the code to place on your website. 1.5.1 Like Box The Like Box allows website owners who have Facebook fan pages to see how many users are fans of their page on Facebook, see recent Facebook fan page posts, and like the fan page directly from their website.
  • 10. 9 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 To place a Like Box for your website’s fan page on your website, visit the documentation page, enter your fan page URL, customize the design options, and get the code to place on your website. 1.5.2 Comments The Comments plugin allows you to incorporate Facebook comments onto any part of your website. This can be a great way for a static website to incorporate comments onto a feedback or other interactive page on their website. Why use Facebook comments? Some users will prefer to simply comment with Facebook because they won’t have to fill out any other information or register. Users also have the option to publish the comment to their profile, which will include their comment plus a link to the page they are commenting upon. This is a great way to expose your page to a Facebook user’s friends through their news feed. The catch with the Comments plugin is that you have to take an additional step beyond just getting the code from the plugin’s documentation page. First, you must register your website as an application with Facebook by creating an application. You will start by entering the App Name as your website or company name and agree to the Facebook terms and conditions. 1.5.3 Facepile The Facepile plugin allows you to show a row of users that have liked your page or connect to your site through the Login Button via the website’s application ID.
  • 11. 10 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 While this is a simple way to show how many people have liked or connected with your page, it is (in my opinion) not any stronger than the Like Button, and certainly not more powerful than the Activity Feed or Recommendations box. 1.5.4 Live Stream The Live Stream plugin allows you to create a real-time chat for users on your website or connected through your website’s application. This plugin is useful when you are holding an event, such as a webcast, webinar, or online class. I haven’t seen any Live Stream applications in action, but it does sound like a good concept. You can learn how to implement this on your site on the plugin’s documentation page. 1.6 Alternative form of Blogging - Tumblr, Flickr, YouTube, etc. 1.6.1 Tumbler Tumblr is known for informal micro-blogging, a form of blogging that is longer than a Tweet but not as long or professional as a full-blown article or post. Tumblr users share content that is mostly visual: pictures, videos, links, and/or info graphics. A Tumblr account is ideal for first-time users looking to start posting instantly, but not commit to a full-time project. 1.6.2 Flicker Flickr (pronounced "flicker") is an image hosting and video hosting website, and web services suite that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo in 2005. In addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs, and effectively an online community, the service is widely used by photo researchers and by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media. 1.6.3 You tube A video blog or video log, sometimes shortened to vlog, is a form of blog for which the medium is video, and is a form of web television. Vlog entries often combine embedded video (or a video link) with supporting text, images, and other metadata. Entries can be recorded in one take or cut into multiple parts. The vlog category is popular on YouTube.
  • 12. 11 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 Video logs (vlogs) also often take advantage of web syndication to allow for the distribution of video over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for automatic aggregation and playback on mobile devices and personal computers (See video podcast). A video log created while riding a motorcycle is known as a motovlog (abbreviation of motorcycle video log). 1.7 Income generation modes - AdSense, and referral marketing. 1.7.1 Adsense & Blogging Blogger provides a simple way for you to make money with your blog. AdSense is Google's content-targeted advertising program. If you use AdSense, you don't have to select keywords or categories for your ads. Instead, Google's servers determine what your posts are about and display the most relevant ads to your readers Blogger requests access to your AdSense account so that we can automatically create and place ad code on your page through our layouts and template tools. As a result of this, you might notice that Blogger is receiving "0%" of your AdSense earnings - this means that you will receive the same amount for clicks or impressions as you would creating the ad code from your AdSense account. To view any partners that have requested access to your AdSense account, and their associated revenue shares, please log in to your AdSense account, click the Home tab, choose the Account settings sub-tab and go to “3rd-party access.” If you see an "enable access" link next to blogger.com, you must click this link in order to create ads with Blogger tools. To take full advantage of other AdSense options and settings, such as managing the types of ads that appear on your blog, you can sign in to the AdSense site and have a look around. That's where you can see how much money your ads are earning and manage your account. 1.7.2 Referral Marketing Referral marketing is one of most useful tools in any businesses tool box, however it is important to point out that not only social media can help your company online. An important aspect of making a good impression on a potential customer is use of inbound marketing, or using pull method to gain new audience. This would include your company’s use of blogs to show potential customer things that y would gain from choosing your company to give ir business. This is an opportunity for your company to showcase differences from competitors
  • 13. 12 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 1.8 Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques for Bloggers Search Engine Optimization is something that makes many blogger’s heads spin – I know this because every time I write an SEO article I get comments from bloggers telling me that its too big a topic and that they’d rather just write ‘quality content’. 1.8.1 Off Site SEO Techniques Offsite SEO techniques are as the name suggests factors from outside the site itself (ie from other sites) that impact the blog’s ranking in search engines. Many of these factors are outside the blogger’s control – however they are useful to know. The most obvious and probably most powerful offsite factor are Inbound Links It is generally agreed that the links that point to a website are one of the most powerful way of climbing Search Engines results pages (in fact many argue it is THE most important factor). – To put it most simply – every link to your site is seen by the search engines as being a vote of confidence in your site. The best inbound links have three main qualities to them: 1. they are from higher ranked sites than your own 2. they are relevant to the topic you are writing about 3. they link to you using relevant keywords to your page How to generate quality inbound Links? ‱ Quality Content – There are all kinds of link generating systems out there but the best way to get links to your blog is to write quality content that people will want to read. You can solicit links with others or sign up for different link building programs or even buy text links on other sites but the cheapest and probably safest approach is to build inbound links in a natural organic way as others link to your quality content. ‱ Notify Relevant Bloggers of your content – Whilst I don’t advocate spamming other bloggers and asking for links – I would recommend that if you write a quality post on a topic that you know will interest another blogger that it might be worth shooting them a short and polite email letting them know of your post. Don’t be offended if they don’t link up, but you might just find that they do and that in addition to the direct traffic that the link generates that it helps build your own page rank in the search engines (more on letting other bloggers know of your posts here). ‱ Directories – Another way to generating inbound links is to submit your links to directories. I know of webmasters who swear by the benefits of such a strategy – the first thing that they do when starting a new site is to do the rounds of directories – submitting links to key pages with appropriate keywords in the links. There are
  • 14. 13 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 loads of directories out there – many of which offer a free submission. Ari Paparo has compiled a list of blog directories that you might want to start with. ‱ Inter-link your Blogs – Increasingly bloggers are starting or joining blog networks to enjoy the benefits of multiple sites and writers working together. One of the advantages of networks of sites is that they usually link to one another. In doing so you have complete control over how your sites are linked to from multiple domains. It is worth noting that you should be careful with this approach – if all your sites are hosted on the one server many think that Search Engines will work out what you’re doing and the impact will be lessened. ‱ Buy Links – Many professional web masters have a budget to purchase links from other highly ranked and and relevant sites. I won’t go into this too much here but you might like to read more about it in my recent post On Buying Text Links. update: I’d encourage anyone wanting to buy links to think very carefully about this. Google have been cracking down on sites that use this practice. They can’t catch everyone but some have been caught and seem to have been penalized for doing it. ‱ Swap Links – Similarly many bloggers swap links with other bloggers. Sometimes this happens pretty naturally (you see someone linking to you so you link back) but in many cases the links are strategic ones and formally arranged between site owners. I get daily requests for such reciprocal links (I rarely act on them). Whilst there is some benefit in such link swapping I would again advise caution here as many SEO experts believe that the search engines have methods for tracking such strategies and devaluing the links. Some try to get around this by doing indirect or triangulated links. ie instead of site A and B doign a direct swap they involve other sites. So A links to C in exchange for D (also owned by C) linking to B (also owned by A) – makes your head hurt doesn’t it!?! There are also a variety of systems around that say they’ll take care of such interlinking for you – I know many who use Digital Point’s Free C0-Op Advertising system. Personally I tend to avoid such schemes and have a policy of linking to sites I think are valuable to my readers. If they link back then so be it. 1.8.2 On Site SEO Techniques Keyword Rich Content – identify a few keywords for your article that you’re hoping will get indexed highly by Google. These keywords will need to be the most common words used in your article. Use them in some or all of the following ways: â–Ș Keywords in post and page titles (read my post on using keywords in titles) â–Ș Keywords in URL of page (blog herald wrote on this a while back)
  • 15. 14 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 â–Ș Keywords in outbound links (read this article on the pros and cons of outbound links) â–Ș Keywords in bold tags (try do it at least once) â–Ș Keywords in heading tags (there is debate over exactly how to use them but it’s generally accepted that h1 tags are important and that h2, h3, h4 etc tags also have an impact. Having said that I’ve seen some pages rank very well in search engines without using heading tags. There are many tutorials online about heading tags – here’s one.) â–Ș Keywords in image alt tags (here’s how) â–Ș Keywords in the general throughout the text of your post – but especially early on in the first few sentences â–Ș Keywords in meta tags (they seem to be less valuable these days but many still believe they are useful with some search engines – here’s a Guide to meta tags) Themed sites – One of the growing theories of SEO is that you are more likely to rank well if you have a substantial amount of pages on a similar theme. ie a niche topic blog will probably rank higher than a general one that covers many topics. Build a blog with over 200 pages of content on the same theme and you’ll increase your chances of ranking well as SEs will see you as an authority on the topic. The take home advice here is to keep to some kind of a topic/niche/theme for your blog. It is also probably another argument for categories and tagging posts that relate together strongly. Site Design – Search Engines like well laid out, well coded and easily to navigate sites. Make sure your pages validate and that they are viewable on all major browsers. Search Engines don’t tend to like too much Flash, Frames or Java Script in your site – keep it simple and clean and their robots will index your site a lot faster and more accurately. Also try to keep your blog free from dead links (a challenge for those of us with older blogs with big archives). Interlink your Site – The way Search Engines index your blog is to send little robot crawlers to your site to track what you’ve written and follow the links. Make it easier for them to get around your blog by using internal linking wisely. Most SEO experts recommend that you provide some sort of Site Map that means every page on your blog is just a link or two away from every other one. One way to do this for bloggers is to make sure that your category pages are in your sidebars as I do in this blog. Also make sure every page links back to your main page and any other important pages on your site. If you’re writing on a topic you’ve previously written about consider linking to what you’ve written before or use a ‘other relevant posts’ feature at the base of your article. You’ll see in my menus at the top of the page a number of my key categories and articles. One of the impacts of having them highlighted in this way is that they have become some of the most highly ranked pages on ProBlogger simply because they are linked to from every page of this blog.
  • 16. 15 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 Update regularly – The more you update your blog the more often Search Engines will send their crawlers to your site to index it. This will mean your new articles could appear in the index within days or even hours rather than weeks. This is a natural benefit of blogging – make the most of it! Outbound Links – There is debate over how SEs treat outbound links from your blog. The relevant outbound links enhance your site’s ranking in search engines Linking to sites outside your own blog does mean you end up sending traffic away from your blog so you need to count the cost of such a strategy. Note that you should always try to link to reputable and relevant sites to your own page. Also keep in mind that too many outbound could have detrimental impact upon your blog. Like in most things in SEO – moderation is the key. Choose your domain name wisely – There are numerous factors to keep in mind when selecting a domain name. For one you might like to include your keyword in it if possible. Secondly you should do a little research to see if someone else has previously used the domain. This could have both positive and negative impact. If it was a quality site with inbound links you might reap some benefits but if it was a banned spam site you could still be banned from Google for a long time. One service you might want to use to check expired domains is Way Back Machine at Archive.org. Register your Domain for a Lengthy Period – a recent patent by Google indicates that it now looks at the length of your domain’s registration in ranking it. It does this because many spam sites have short registrations and a longer one indicates that you’re building a site with substance and are in it for the long haul. One topic per post – the more tightly focused the theme of a page the better when Search Engines come to rank it. Sometimes you might find yourself writing long posts that end up covering a number of different topics. They might relate loosely but if search engine ranking is what you’re after it could be better to break up your post into smaller more focused pieces. Write optimal length posts – there is some thought going around the Search Engine Optimization community that pages that are too short can get passed over for high rankings. On the other hand don’t make it too long either – because in doing so you make it difficult to keep your keyword density up and could end up with a less tightly focused page. Research also shows that longer articles can have a pretty steep drop off rate in readers after the text gets below the ‘fold’ or to the end of the first screen of article . Avoid Duplicate content – Google warns publishers in its guidelines about having the same content on multiple pages. This goes for both multiple pages that you own but also pages that others own. This is because a tactic of spammers is often to reproduce content on many pages and/or to steel content from other sites. There is some debate over what duplicate content does and doesn’t include (for instance many bloggers use ‘free articles’
  • 17. 16 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 as content on their blogs – these articles often appear on hundreds and even thousands of other sites around the web and to me could be seen as duplicate content) Ping – services like Pingomatic (there are numerous others too) will ping a variety of websites for you to notify them that you’ve updated. In doing so you’ll also be letting search engines know that you’ve updated which will trigger their robots to come visit your blog. RSS Feed and Search Engines’ impact –Submitting your RSS feed to Search Engine can be an effective way to get indexed on Yahoo. This process helps Yahoo's indexing systems to recognize your blog or website, potentially driving more traffic. Detailed instructions and benefits can be found in the guide "Getting Yahoo Traffic for your Blog." Additionally, it’s suggested that submitting your RSS feed to Google’s personalized pages might offer similar benefits for Google indexing. 1.8.3 Latest Update from Google on Publication Pages: Discontinuation of Manual Publication Addition: Starting from April 25, 2024, publishers are no longer able to add new publications manually to the Publisher Center. This change is part of Google's transition towards automatically created publication pages, expected to roll out later this year. Impact on Publishers: â–Ș Customization Features: Publishers with existing manually created publication pages will retain access to customization features until the automatic creation of pages is fully implemented. â–Ș Follow Feature: Users will still be able to follow their favorite publications even after the shift to automatic publication pages. 1.8.4 Google News and News Surfaces: Eligibility for Google News: Content from publishers that comply with Google’s content policies will be automatically considered for Google News and other News surfaces. Content Ranking: Having a publication listed in the Publisher Centre does not ensure its appearance across Google surfaces. Google’s systems autonomously identify and rank content based on several factors including relevance, prominence, authoritativeness, freshness, location, and language. Further details on ranking criteria can be explored in Google’s guidelines on "Ranking within Google News." By staying updated with these changes, publishers can better align their strategies to enhance their visibility and ranking on Google News and other platforms. Quantities of Content ––Search Engines will see your site as more comprehensive the more content you have. You also better your odds of being found in Search Engines if
  • 18. 17 Advanced AI-Enhanced Blog Architecture, Design, and Monetization (AIDAM) ©Jayakumar K, 2024-25 you have more pages. just to put up random junk content – be careful about this – rather work at building a comprehensive and large site over time. Submit to Search Engines – You can do all the best onsite SEO strategies in the world and still get nowhere because the Search Engines have not found you to start with. Each search engine has a way of letting it know about your site – submit your URL to be included in the index. Please note that this takes time and perhaps a quicker and more effective way is to get linked to by a site already indexed by the search engine. Submit to Google Publisher- Publisher Center is an interface that helps publishers submit and manage their content in Google News, as well as configure monetization solutions through Reader Revenue Manager. Note: Publisher Centre Reader Revenue Manager is not currently available in India. Conclusion: Google BlogSpot offers a robust set of features to help bloggers create, manage, and optimize their blogs. From post creation to reader interaction, each component plays a crucial role in building a successful blog. By understanding and utilizing these features, bloggers can enhance their content and grow their audience effectively. If you need more detailed information or specific instructions on any of these features, feel free to ask! Note: Google's new documentation explains that publishers will be unable to do manual submissions and that current publishers will continue to have access to the submission tools but that those tools will be removed some time later in 2024. 2 The Future of Blogging and Monetization Process The Future of Blogging Blogging continues to evolve with new technologies and trends.
