Advanced UV Protection for
Seamless Resin Based Floor Systems
Presented by Gary Sharratt
National Technical Manager Flooring and Linings
March 2017
This presentation is not intended to be
a chemistry lesson…
I will introduce you to Sika’s global
product innovation process; then
show you four new resin technologies
that solve a common flooring issue
colour change (yellowing) over time.
This presentation is for you…

Sika Canada Produces > 300 Floor - Wall Products to Meet Client’s Requirements
1. solid colour coatings and screeds
“aromatic polyurethane discolouration”
2. multicoloured decorative flooring
“clear epoxy top coat discolouration”
food plant freezer / colour change at
doorway to a dark cold storage room
medical center / colour change at
cold joint – low quality top coat
The Problem… Colour Change Over Time
1. White to light pastel colours
Apply a pigmented top coat of
aliphatic polyurethane pigment
to the same colour to prevent
yellowing of the base layer.
2. Select deep tone colours that
typically do not dramatically
show the effects of yellowing.

Sikafloor® PurCem® - Thermal Shock Resistant – Food Industry
(PUC) Aromatic Polyurethane /Cement + Aggregate Screed
Development Idea: Facility owners wanted light reflective colours to reduce
lighting demands, without giving up proven thermal shock and in-service heat
load resistance of up to 120°C (248°F) and cold resistance down to - 40°C (-40°F).
Solution: Sikafloor® 33NA PurCem®
UV Resistant, Pigmented Aliphatic Polyurethane/Cement used as a Primer, Binder and Top Coat for
Sikafloor® PurCem® thermal shock resistant screeds.

 Every product or resin technology has advantages and limitations…
 No single product or technology is best for every application.
Example: chemical & stain resistance varies widely by specific formulation;
not just the type of generic resin in the product…
 A full line, full service manufacturer will take the time to know a
client’s specific requirements then recommend the best solution
