Although the picture
is small, it is the only
image that is in full
colour showing that is
the most important.
The sepia effect
makes the main
image look
classic and
vintage. The lack
of colour also
makes the
advert look
stripped back
and natural.
This is a magazine
advert for Taylor’s
newest album ‘Red’.
The largest text on
the advert is the title
of the album but the
audience is not told
that ‘RED’ is the
name of the album,
as if we are meant to
already know which
suggests that this ad
is appealing to
Taylor’s existing fans
who already have
knowledge of her
work.
This is a magazine
advert for our
album ‘Red’.
The largest text
on our poster,
like Taylors, is
the title for our
album ‘Red’.
Unlike Taylors
poster, we had
to incorporate
‘debut album’
directly below as
we are
promoting a
new artist with a
much smaller
existing fan base
than Taylor Swift
In contrast to the
use of a sepia
effect in Taylors
poster, we have
used artistic
filters in
photoshop to
portray child-like
and playful
connotations.
The effects in the
poster are meant
to remind the
audience of a
cartoon.
Taylors head is
above the text
suggesting that
the designer is
replying on the
audience to
identify with
Taylors image
before reading the
text.
We also know that
she is an
established artist
because the
audience are not
told that ‘Red’ is
the title for Taylors
new album until
we reach the
bottom of the
poster.
The main
colours for
the advert
are red,
black and
white.
Here, I made the
decision to have the
artists head at the
same level as the
album title, allowing
the audience to
make the
connection between
the two,
immediately. This is
slightly different to
the advert featured
from Taylors
campaign.
Like Taylors
advert, our main
colours here are
red, black and
white linking with
the denotations
of the album title.
Taylors facial
expression and
body language
here are both
quite serious.
She is not
making direct
address giving
the impression
she doesn’t
know the
camera is there.
As the viewer,
we feel as
though we could
be looking in on
her private life
supporting the
idea of
voyeurism.
The natural lighting
of the image
implies that Taylor
is being herself and
natural around the
camera making
herself seem real
and honest – which
are characteristics
Taylor wants her
image to portray to
her fans.
During this
shoot, we
used the
same soft
studio lighting
as we did in
the
performance
shots to keep
a strong
continuity
between our
final
outcomes.
Unlike Taylors
poster, the artist
is seen n with a
playful facial
expression and is
making direct
address in an
attempt to pull
the audience in
creating
synthetic
personalisation
It could be argued
that the way Taylor
is dressed (shorts)
and how she is
showing the curves
in her body by the
way she is stood
may suggest that
she is trying to
appeal to an older
target audience or
possibly a male fan
base through the
use of feminine
‘sex appeal’ or the
make gaze.
Sale information
inside a red strap
line at the bottom
of the adverts. In
contrasting red
and white colours
to keep is eye
catching.
The body language
is quite similar to
that seen in Taylor’s
advert. The artist is
over her shoulder
and again is in
extremely feminine
costume.
The only difference
is that in our poster,
we have chosen to
use a long shot
rather than a mid, to
show the whole of
our artist.
Following the
conventions, we
have
incorporated the
strap line to the
bottom of our
advert with sales
information on.
