This document outlines a plan to address iodine deficiency in Haiti through improved salt production and iodization in the commune of Anse Rouge. It proposes establishing two salt companies - one to produce 250,000 metric tons of salt annually for export, and another to produce 40,000-50,000 metric tons of salt annually for iodization and local consumption. The plan aims to provide local jobs, economic benefits, access to iodized salt to improve health, and secondary benefits like infrastructure development. Potential challenges include ensuring the interests of local communities are protected and that opportunities for integrated development are fully realized.
