I am a Cleveland native and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Ashland University as well as a Master’s of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Vermont. I have taught multiple college courses at the University of Vermont from College Algebra to Calculus. My interests are in nearly every form of media, from music of all kinds to video games and television shows; I even formerly served as a DJ for a university radio station. My goal for this course is not only for you to walk away with the knowledge necessary to continue your mathematical education, but also to consider the real-world applications of the processes discussed and mathematics in general. Mathematics is not about the equations, nor is it really even about the numbers; Mathematics is about the logic and the creativity in applying that logic. It is a game, and I invite you all to join me in playing along. Welcome to class! Required Materials for class: Calculator Paper/Notebook Pencil/Pen Your Brain Course description: In this course we will be focusing on algebraic functions of varying degrees; specifically we will be constructing, manipulating, rewriting and solving equations and expressions using existing expressions and defined algebraic operations. Furthermore, we will touch upon the trigonometric functions and will use them to solve systems relating to angle measures and certain geometric figures. We will tackle many problem solving situations with inductive and deductive reasoning, as well as touch upon skills revolving around the understanding and logic behind proofs.

Course Assessment and Evaluation: For every week/section, there will be one quiz scheduled for each Friday (6/17,6/24,7/1,7/8 and 7/15) with a single Comprehensive Exam scheduled for the last Friday (7/22). Expect two homework assignments each week at minimum, due dates for which are dependent on the assignment, but no later than that week's Friday (Quiz day). Quizzes: 25% Final Exam: 15% Homework: 40% Attendance and Participation: 20% Grading: Late Homework Assignments will be accepted, but the maximum score possible will suffer a 15% deduction for each class day late. For example. if homework due Wednesday is turned in on the next day, the maximum grade one can earn is 85%. If homework due Thursday is turned in Monday, the maximum grade one can earn is 70%. I highly suggest keeping up with the due dates, as I grade rather quickly in order to return the homework so it can be used to study for Quizzes. I will drop the lowest quiz grade as well as the lowest homework grade for each student. The grading scale is as follows: A 100-93 A- 92-90 B+ 89-87 B 86-83 B- 82-80 C+ 79-77 C 76-73 C- 72-70 D+ 69-67 D 66-63 D- 62-60 F Below 60 Classroom Policies: Standard policies that govern a high school classroom apply also to my classroom. First and foremost, everyone must present an aura of respect for both myself and for your fellow classmates. When you enter the classroom, be prepared with all of the necessary materials needed for that day. Furthermore, be prepared to listen carefully, participate and ask questions. Attendance is also required, and repeated absences will be reflected in your final grade. There will be no usage of electronic devices, unless otherwise permitted by myself in advance. Inappropriate clothing and language will not be tolerated. Violations of Academic Honesty, such as copying, plagiarizing, and storing information will not be tolerated. Period.
