Alternative way of transferring excel data to stata Data transferring can be done through the dual combinations between keyboard shortcuts and stata command or between keyboard shortcuts and menus. Note: Keyboard shortcuts I) II) III) Ctrl + A (Select and highlight the portions of numerical presentations of data) Ctrl + C(Copy the highlighted portions of numerical presentations of data) Ctrl + V(Paste the highlighted portions of numerical presentations of data into Stata data editor. Stata command (Case sensitive)- Most of the commands are in lowercase. So, there should be some forms of differences between lowercase and uppercase in stata. edit – opens up the data editor of Stata and it allows editing of values/variables. Browse – opens up the data editor of Stata and it allows browsing without editing it. Here is the sample of excel data (DataStata) that will be used for the process of data transferring. (a) Click on any of the data points and press Ctrl + A to highlight the portions of numerical values of data. The illustration of it will be as below:-
- 2. (b) Open up the statistical tool (Stata). The interface of Stata will be shown as below:- (c) It is a must to open data editor of Stata in order for us to transfer the selected portions of data into the data editor. Below are the three main ways that can be used to open data editor :i)Type edit in the command box and it will direct us to data editor without the usage of menus. ii)Click window and select Data editor in Stata to open up the data editor through menus. The interface of data editor will be shown as below:-
- 3. (d)Point to second column and row and double click at it. You will be presented with some options and you need to select paste. A dialog box will appear and you will be required to give confirmation on whether you want to treat first row as data or variable names. You can choose the second option if you want to mentioned the names of variables in your first row and vice versa e) The data editor will look like this after the selection of second option.
