Ameter Summary
Ameter: at the forefront of sustainable energy and agriculture
Our Company
Ameter has been running for just over one
year. It has primarily objective is to develop
the hardware and software needed to
accomplish our aim of making a lab-grade
phytoplankton density sensor.
Within 3 months we have now successfully
developed a fully functional prototype sensor
that is currently being tested and calibrated.
The company has received seed funding from
the University of Southampton to continue to
develop the prototype and is in line to access
more funding to bring the product to market.
We believe Phytoplankton is going to be a
major disruptor in a myriad of sectors in the
coming decade.
Trials using it for fertilisers, biofuels and
animal feeds are underway with many more
industrial sectors seeing the potential use
case for the growing of phytoplankton.
Ameter is positioning itself at the forefront of
this green revolution by providing a means to
increase production yields and minimising
culture collapse.
Our Vision Our Value
We are also exploring the development of
bespoke blends of phytoplankton, as
opposed to monocultures, to give enhanced
nutritional benefits to the end product.
Our sensor technology is calibrated using
thousands of data points to give a
reproduceable and accurate measurement
giving industries not only quality data to be
working from but also removing the need to
employ a specialist to gather this data.
We are confident that the future will rely
heavily on phytoplankton, and with our
product and experience we believe industries
can see massive potential in growing these
microalgae.
Our Services
Our Solution
Create a data driven process to optimize farming
processes to enable scaled production
Produce accurate calibration regimes and profiles that
are standardized for each use case
Tailor efficient blends optimized for the local
environment
The Challenges
• Growing phytoplankton has traditionally required an experienced and
trained individual to judge when to harvest the culture to avoid total
collapse. Not many experts exist and therefore they are expensive to
retain.
Lack of producers today.
New producers will have a
steep learning curve and high
potential for crop failure
• Whilst the myriad of industries that will be keen to adopt
phytoplankton culturing may differ from one another, the challenges of
doing so efficiently do not.
Different uses have different
needs and problems
• Phytoplankton is a collection of over 20,000 species. The nutritional
profile of each is different.
• The time to grow to harvest density is different and the resistance to
herbicides is also different in these species. As such the selection of
which species to culture, and blends of complementary blends, is
another challenge for the industry depending on use cases.
Lack of understanding on
what species would be best
suited
Our Process
•Due to the affordability of
our technology, scaling to
multiple users would enable
us to collate a wider range of
data providing better insight
and more accurate analysis
•By coupling our technology
with our experience, we can
provide valuable insight,
localized to producers for the
optimization of their
processes to maximize yield
•Our technology allows us to
quickly measure the results
of each change. The
portability of our sensor
allows real time lab quality
data in the field
• We use an agile process to
develop and deploy. This
enables us to develop blends
of phytoplankton that have
efficient profiles for each use
case

Our Team
• Peter has more than 40 years working in licensing and business development within the
analytical laboratory market, notably the environmental and pharmaceutical sectors
• More than 25 years actively developing the use of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) and
Proficiency Testing (PT) in support of the ISO 17025 Accredited Laboratory environment and
working with suppliers to improve both availability of CRMs & PT and their proper use
• Established 3 new businesses to produce and distribute CRMs and PT
