Motivation and main objective
• Previous research work has proposed the implementation
of a Private Local Automation Cloud that is composed by
a set of networked embedded devices that are connected
to industrial equipment
• However, a common architecture for implementing similar
solutions is still missing

– An ontology is an engineering artefact:
• Constituted by a specific vocabulary used for any domain
description and a set of explicit assumptions regarding the
meaning of the vocabulary
• Ontology editors

Conclusions
27.10.2017
An Architecture for Implementing Private Local Automation
Clouds Built by CPS
22
• Advances in embedded system technologies now permit
the enhancement of the processing and storage
capabilities of current embedded devices
• Ontologies may be designed as a container of system’s
knowledge for monitoring and controlling production
systems
• The presented architecture may be used for
decentralizing knowledge-centric based solutions as the
eScop OKD-MES framework
Further work

An Architecture for Implementing Private Local Automation
Clouds Built by CPS
23
• Only small and separated proofs of concept have been
done. Further, a system built following the described
architecture should be validated in a large scale scenario
