An insight into Reverse Training An Effort by :- Ujjal Ghosh  07-09-2010
Meaning of R.O.T. Training goes parallel with all issues and is directly linked itself with output and development, right from its inceptual stage. How does one go about developing people, especially in the Top Levels, one requires to see into the ‘Micro’ issues very specifically. To go into the issues let us see the steps involved in the process.
Meaning of R.O.T. I. TheSteps involved could be :- Understand the MICRO issues related to:- i)  Manpower to Total Cost ii)  Raw Materials  iii) Operations involved iv) Sales to Profit Ratio v)  Monitoring Functions through functional heads at Multifunctional/locations
Meaning of R.O.T. B)Facilitate inputs of all the above areas through a Common Monitoring Cell, headed by Personnel from all cross functions take key individuals who are the process builders from grass root level to the top level. Monitor the efforts/inputs provided by all the ‘Functional' heads/personnel from : Production; Operations; Maintenance; R&D; Marketing; Sales; P&A; Human Resources
Meaning of R.O.T C)Infuse a  common Unit  to measure inputs,so as to arrive at a Common Denomination, which is universally acceptable at par with the industry norms.The Measuring Unit could be:- -Goals/Targets -Manpower used in numbers at various major locations -Power: Consumption in units for all areas in production,maintainence of machines, office area etc. -Quality: A key component to measure standards set to meet targets for vendors, buyers in domestic and international markets
Meaning of R.O.T D) Next is to study the ‘Order’ of inputs v/s Outputs received, which has to be segregated on the basis of Good, Bad & Poor and check which factors have enabled the :- i)  People, along with  ii)  Process,  iii) Situations iv) Techniques. E) This shall be seen in growth in Figures through Sales through Production,alongwith power and manpower consumption.
Meaning of R.O.T F ) Training  goes to be a ‘Integral’ part of the total process, especially in the Reverse Hierarchy Top personnel in the first rung, followed by middle and then lower rung thereafter), wherein the basic inputs  should be :- A)  Basic Common Knowledge Areas  covering Understanding processes of production; status of Vendors;Status of Buyers; Understand the driving issues of domestic & international markets. B)  Key Governing Issues  like inbuilt policies;objectives;roles & responsibilities of key personnel C)Core Competencies  of all Core Personnel involved through appropriate Competency Mapping and Skill Matrix of key personnel . D) Manpower : Level of personnel required with basic qualifications, Skill set, On-the-Job Trainings.Manhours given to upgrade grass root workforce
Meaning of R.O.T Let use a Math's formula :- ( a+b) ² =  (a ² +2ab+b ² )  Where a= number of initiatives taken in numbers b= the basic inputs of all issues like manpower, raw materials, power utilization and cost savings done through kaizens,  continuous improvements
Meaning of R.O.T G)Also look into the Parallel issues affecting decisions, planning done asrecieved from:- peers, colleagues, associates and  subordinates. H) Thereafter monitor the Trainings’ as is required to be imparted to the existing personnel, especially the top levels in the form of development programme’s and go down through mid level ,through the KRAs,Skills mandatory & desirable affecting work process affecting attitude, work place ethics, correlate the efforts of work-groups at Micro Levels.
Meaning of R.O.T A Value added insight into the role of Mentor and Mentee,which is a very important process in team building ,is a direct case of Reverse Order Training in any Organization which is a ‘Process Enabler’ for a proper functional progress of sub groups and groups in any organization and acts as a Catalyst.
