Semiconductor Diode
A diode is fabricated from a p-n
junction. Semi-conductors such as
silicon or germanium can be “doped”
with small concentrations of specific
impurities to yield a material which
conducts electricity via electron
transport (n-type) or via holes (p-type).
When these are brought together to
form a p-n junction, electrons (holes)
migrate away from the n-type (p-type)
side.

Diode as a Rectifier
Rectifier is a device which convert the ac supply to dc supply. It use in
mobile charger, battery charging system and etc.
There are some classification of rectifier as;
1. Half-wave rectifier
2. Full wave rectifier
3. Bridge rectifier

Peak Inverse Voltage
In semiconductor diodes, peak reverse voltage or peak inverse voltage is
the maximum voltage that a diode can withstand in the reverse direction
without breaking down or avalanching. If this voltage is exceeded the
diode may be destroyed. Diodes must have a peak inverse voltage rating
that is higher than the maximum voltage that will be applied to them in
a given application.
