This is a double page spread from NME magazine. It’s main focus of the page is on rock band ‘The Teenagers’. The title of the band and the article. A bold font is used to represent the band’s personality and the black text on a blue background is used to make the text stand out on the page. The side bar used here provides insights into other upcoming artists. This is relevant as it relates to the main article and provides the reader with additional information should they get bored of the main article. The black background separates the side bar from the rest of the page. A small fact file box about the band is given here to let the readers know a little more about them without having to read through the entire article. The text is neatly structured in the middle of the page in a simple black font so it is easy for the reader to understand. The writers have used a quote from the band in the middle of the text to highlight something of relevance or important to the band. Small images of mentioned bands give the reader a visual image of the band and by having images it makes the page look more appealing to the reader. Blue is the dominant colour of these pages which is uncommon as dominant colours usually consist of red, white band black. The image of the band takes up one side of the double page feature. I think it is important not to have lots of writing on the page and no images as the reader will just get bored and lose interest. Magazine including its own name as a way of advertising. Radial Analysis of Double Spread 1
Radial Analysis of Double Spread 2 Anchorage - The article title directly links to the illustrations on the page. The title is ‘From Tags To Riches’ therefore there is graffiti as the background of the top half of the page (what we now call tags) and stereotypical ‘street’ items such as a large stereo and empty beer bottles A main image of the artist which is property of the magazine, unlike the others shown, is used to not only show who the artist is but to illustrate the article and give the readers an image in their head. It is also noticeable that no text whatsoever had been used on this page which I think is important as the audience needs a page included in an article that does not overload their minds too much. The article s laid out in columns, a technique used in almost all magazine articles. This keeps it structured and tidy all the while not overloading the reader brain with too much information as once. You will see that many magazine articles use 1 or 2 oversized quotes scattered within the articles itself. These can give a brief insight into the artist as well as sometimes giving an indication to what point the article is at. This can also act as a tool of attracting people to read the article if they find the quote interesting or intriguing. Small images are featured which are not the possession of the magazine meaning they are secondary images not taken themselves. These give illustrations to the article as it may be talking about issues and old times the artist has had in the past. They also make the artist seem more in depth as well as well as attracting the target audience as everyone loves looking at pictures All three pages of the spread, regardless of having completely different features, all tie in with each other a the creators have chosen one theme and stuck with it. This being a slightly chaotic theme with graffiti, text and images at slants and paint splats in the background. I think this is important as even though its on different pages, they should all tie in as one.
