Billboard
Colour scheme
• The colour scheme for this billboard
advertisement fits the clean cut image of
the Vogue brand. They have done this by
using their signature black and white style
background. This would have been used
to inform the target audience what the
brand of the billboard is. They have also
use splashes of bright colours in the three
images that are centrally composed on
the billboard. They have used bright
turquoise and yellow. Both of these
colours would stand out against the
bright white background. This would be
eye-catching to the target audience and
force them to take notice of the brand.
Typography
• The only text that is on this billboard
advertisement is the title of the brand is
being advertised. Despite not giving much
information about what are trying to sell, by
doing this they are consolidating the idea of
the brand within their target audience.
However, due to Vogue being a well
established and popular brand the majority of
their target audience would already know
that they are a magazine brand and they
would also understand the focus and theme
of their magazine without having to be told in
the advertisement. They have used their
signature font which would be recognised by
their target audience and it has been written
in a black font which is also typical of their
brand and would easily visible against the
white background.
Images
• On this particular billboard advertisement they
have chosen to use three images all staring the
same female model, in the same setting and they
all surround and focus on the same theme. The
two images on the sides are smaller than the one
in the middle. All of the images are centrally
composed on the billboard and this would work in
ensure that they are eye-catching to the target
audience. The setting for each image is in the sea
with a bright blue sky. The models are all wearing
swimsuits which accentuate the lean bodies of the
models. This wold have been to advertise the high
fashion type models that would been appealing to
the target audience. The images have an overall
warm feel to them because of the assumingly
tropical setting and colours. Thi would attract the
target audimce because they would be nterested
in going to a place
Website
Masthead
• For the masthead of this website that accompanies Vogue magazine
they have used their signature font that is on all of their products. This
would have been used to ensure that their target audience would
recognise their brand at the first look. They have used a serif font
because they gives the text a more classic look and feel and so this
would represent the clean cut image of the brand and it would also
represent the reverence that some people in their target audience
would hold their magazine to. They have also chosen to have in text in
a black font as this also represents the classical feel to the brand. This
is something that is also used across all of their products and so it
would be easily recognised by their target audience. The black font
would also be easily seen against the white background and so it
would be eye-catching and easy to read. In this particular masthead
they have included the word ‘BRITISH’ in the centre on the ‘O’ in
Vogue. Due to vogue being a brand that is in business worldwide they
have offices and editions of their magazine all over the world and so
they have included the location that this website refers to in the
masthead so that the target audience would be able to easily find out
if they are using the website that is relevant to them. They have put
this in a black font that would match the rest of the masthead. It is
smaller and so this emphasises tat the overall masthead has more
importance that the location. However, it is written in a sans serif font
which gives it a more modern look and feel and would have been
chosen so that it stands out against the different font of the ‘Vogue’
masthead.
Images
• All of the images that they have chosen to use on the home page of their website
match the article that they have been taken from and they all represent the typical
content that would be featured in the magazine that the website accompanies or
the articles that are featured on the website. For example, the image of Rhianna
the is in the top left hand corner of this slide is used to advertise an article that is
focusing on her. This image would have been used because it would have been
more eye-catching to the target audience than it would if they have just used black
text on a white background in order to advertise the article. This article would have
been mostly aimed at those who are fans of Rhianna’s music and so without the
image only those people would have picked out the article from the many others
that they are advertise and they have on their website. The image is a medium close
up of Rhianna smiling. In this image she is smiling which would portray an image of
positivity that they would be trying to promote in their magazine and on their
website. Due to how popular Rhianna and her music is at the minute even those
who are not fans of her would recognise her image and be intrigued by her image
being feature on the homepage of such a popular magazine and so this would draw
them into reading that particular article. The image on the top right corner of this
slide is of the model Edie Campbell and it was used to advertise the article that she
was featured in. they have used a typical models headshot. She is earing a minimal
amount of make up and her hair is a simple style that would be achievable for most
women as so this makes her seem relatable to the target audience and so this
would make them want to read the article that she is advertising. In the image she
is also holding an oversized lolly pop as a prop. This is in a baby pink colour. It could
be being used a subtly phallic object in order to emphasize her sexuality or it could
be being used to show a more playful and young side to her. However the two
images at the bottom are much different than the ones on the top in that they show
models who are much more typically runway models. This is shown from there high
and blank expressions. They are also shown in high fashion clothing and the one on
the left is even walking on the runway. These would have been used to show the
interest that the magazine has in the fashion world and so two picture of runway
models would be useful in attracting their target audience.
Headers
• In this website for vogue magazine the have used labels
that the top of the homepage so that target audience can
use the website with ease. They all written in the same
sans-serif, black font. This sans serif font is the same as
the font that they have used for the work ‘British’ in the
masthead. This would be so they can achieve a consistent
look and feel to their brand and so they can create a
brand identity. The black colour allows the labels to be
easily seen and read against the white background. The
labels that they have chosen clearly express the focus of
the brand. For example, two of the headers are
‘FASHION’ and ‘CATWALK’ both of these represent the
fashion genre of the brand of the magazine. Having
headers at the top of the page is a typical convention of
any website, not just the website that would accompany
a magazine. Despite being primarily a fashion brand they
have used the headers ‘BEAUTY’, ‘ARTS & LIFESTYLE’ and
‘VIDEO’ in order to show wider interests of the brand that
would attract a new type of target audience and
therefore increase their readership.
Articles
On the home page for the Vogue magazine website they have decided to
use four articles that are being featured that day. For each one the
headline is written in a serif font which would bring forward the classic
and timeless nature of the brand. The headline is the largest piece of font
that s about the articles because this I what would attract the target
audience the most. Underneath the headline there is also a line stating
who the magazine is by or who it is ‘in partnership’ with. The ‘by’ or ‘in
partnership with’ part of this is also written in a serif font. This also shows
the sophisticated, grown up nature of the brand. This is part is also
written in italics which would make it stand out as none of the other text
relating to this is in italics. This would attract the target audience because
it would make the writer o the article stand out and the reader may be
looking for a particular journalist. Beneath this there is also the main topic
of the piece that is being written about. This is in all capitals, it is also
written in a sans-serif font which gives the pieces of text a more modern
feel. in addition to this it is written in bright red which would make is
stand out to the target audience as it is the only piece of text on the page
that is written in red. The articles are all about fashion in some way
because this is what the main focus if the brand is and so it would be
appealing to the target audience. For example, the first article is about
Rhianna’s wardrobe choices and so whilst being about a famous singer it
also manages to weave in fashion. The second article is about a famous
model who would be involved in fashion and what is in her nag. The third
article is about the famous fashion brand ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ and the
fourth article is about how you can update your wardrobe for Autumn and
Winter.
Extras (cookies, adverts, search ect.)
• This website, much like most other websites, also
has a pop up at the bottom of the page that is
informing the target audience about the ‘Cookies’
policy of the website. They have also used a search
button which would allow the target audience to
easily find what they are looking for on the
website. These are both typical conventions of
most websites not just those that accompany
magazines. This magazine has also used an advert
for a subscription to their magazine in the top left
hand corner of the website. This is advertised by
an image of the front cover of tone of their
magazines as well as a serif font which matches the
rest of the font on the page. They have also used
the word ‘SUBSCRIBE’ written in a red box that the
target audience would easily be able to see
because of its bright colour which stands out
against the otherwise mostly black text which is
used on the page. colour.
