What is an andriod?
Operating system designed primarily for mobile devices.
Initially developed by Android, Inc., later by goolge and
open handset alliance (OHA).
Google releases the code under the Apache License.
Released its first android mobile on october 2008.
Based on Linux kernel version 2.6
Open Handset Alliance:
a consortium of hardware ,software and telecommunication
companies.
Devoted in advancing the open standards for mobile
devices.

Features :
   GSM ,CDMA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi etc.
   SMS , MMS , google cloud messaging .
   Multiple language support.
   Multi-touch.
   Video calling .
   Multitasking .
   Screen capture.
   Voice based features.
   Accessibility.
Versions :
 The upcoming version of android
  is ‘KEY LIME PIE”.
 Likely to be released in may of
  2013.
Applications :
Developed in the Java language using the Android software
development kit (SDK).
The officially supported integrated development
environment (IDE) is Eclipse .
Can be accessed by the users through an app store such as
Google Play or the Amazon Appstore.
Market stats :
World's most widely used smartphone platform.
Market share of 75% at the end of 2012.
1.3 million activations per day.

Opensource framework.
Majority of the apps in Google Play are free.
Inbuilt support for the Flash.
Great social networking integration.
 Better Notification System(comprises emails, updates
  from various widgets).
 Updated user interface design.
 It supports MP4, 3GP, MPEG4, MIDI.
 Additional Hardware Support.
 Free to customize.
Limitations :
Firefox does not work efficiently in android devices.
Bluetooth has some limitations in this operating system.
A little bit slow when compared to IOS.
Many apps send private information of
 user to remote servers without permissions.
Google does not over see the third party
 applications before they enter the market.
Beyond smartphones :
In smart glasses, wristwatches, headphones, car CD and
DVD players , portable media players and Voice over IP
phones.
Used in netbooks, smartbooks ,smart TVs (Google TV) and
cameras.
Future possibilities :
Google Glass -Project Glass :
•a head-mounted display(HMD) with information in
 smartphone like format , using Android OS.
The HMD allows user to access certain features like
• image search, face recognition.
•contact look up.
Possibility of Android usage on embedded hardware
which include:
• GPS devices,
• thin-client computers,
• and set-top boxes.
Conclusion :
Hope all the limitations are simplified and further
developments in android may bring new dimensions in the
smartphone world.
