1.) The Guardian, Player, Abigail (07/13/13) business economics. Gender Equality:
why women are still held back. Retrieved from
www.theguardian.com/business/economics-blog/2013dec/06/gender.
The statistics of the research on this issue consistently showed that companies with
high-level female representation on boards significantly outperformed those with low
representation. There needs to be encouragement for women to break the norm and
seek out the employment they want in order for the labor market to survive in the future
with the shortage of skilled workers and aging population.
The article stated many facts that brought to light the reasons why women are held back
by stereotyping and traditional role attitudes in society. The research showed also that
performance is higher when the gender balance is more equal. The role of women in the
workplace is becoming more vital as time passes and a stagnate mind-set will only be
detrimental to companies when hiring only males for upper level and management
positions.
2.)The Atlantic, Lam,Bourree (07/27/15) Why women shouldn’t have to act like Dudes
at work. retrieved from www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/07/women-work
gender. The points brought up in this article are very encouraging. The point of not
focusing on our gender difference but our abilities is the true starting point for businesses
to move forward and create a gender equal work force. The need for one sex to have to
emulate another to be successful is nonsense. There are other cultures around the world
who can be role models for the US in how to implement the process of gender equality
becoming a reality.

3.) The Huffington Post. Business News Daily, Brooks, Chad (10/07/2014) Gender
equality in the workplace can boost profits. Retrievedfrom http://www.huffington
post.com/2014/10/07/gender-diversity-business-studies The general idea behind this
article is the emphasizing of increased revenue when offices become gender equal. The
fact that it may not be what certain workers wanted still didn’t seem to effect the bottom
line revenue. The greater the pool of knowledge is the more ideas and problem solving
tools the office has to draw from. The appearance alone of a gender equal facility was
seen as a positive incentive for employees to do a better job.
4.) US Bureau of Labor Statistics, October 2013. Highlights of Women’s Earnings in
2012. Retrieved from www.bls.gov. The differences in earnings just with being a
different gender were amazing to read about. The gap in some situations seems almost
illegal. The fact that you are paid less for the same position just because you are female
astounds me. The need to hire and pay according to education, ability and skills should
be foremost in an employer’s mind. The stereo typing needs to stop and there needs to be
more equality. The one positive factor is that more women than ever are obtaining higher
education than their male counterparts. This should help to force employers who will
eventually have more female candidates applying for positions than males to start looking
at things differently.

01/28/15 retrieved from wallethub.com/edu/best-and-worst-states-for-women-
equality.org The article has a focus on the percentages currently while looking at the
future trends forming now. The information is interesting but could contain more
realistic “smaller-step” resolution ideas. The general stereotype of women being inferior
still lingers in most upper management environments. The solutions noted in the article
suggest time and education trends will force changes in hiring women and closing in on
that gender-inequality gap

equality Retrievedfrom, www.pbs,org/newshour/bb/social_isssues The subject
gender lifespan is touched upon and the fact that we are the only industrially wealthy
countries in the world that does not have a national healthcare system. Wage inequality

is also another topic addressed briefly as we rank 67th in the same list. The stereotyping
and separation along with underpaying women for the exact same job a male counterpart
is doing has been happening for a very long time, and needs to be addressed publically as
a society. The general ideas expressed are very eye-opening. The fact that so many other
countries have realized that men and women can produce the same quality of work and
be just as valuable as the other, is amazing. The article briefly touches on several issues
needing to be addressed and fives statistics that back up the need for change in our
country as a whole.
