Effects of the sacramentThe graces of the Anointing of the Sick are:Union of the sick person to the Passion of Christ for his own good and the good of the Church;Strength, peace, and courage to endure in a Christian manner the suffering of illness or old age;Forgiveness of sins and of penalty for sin if the person is sorry for his sins and unable to receive the Sacrament of Penance;

These evils, the Church teaches, are caused by original sin.We must accept that original sin is not just something that Adam did for which we are suffering, but that original sin is in all of us. Each everyone of us have fallen nature and have to suffer the results.
