Overview
 At first, Apple Inc. appointed two general contractors : DPR and Skanska in
2013.
 They were fired because of they were unable to come to an agreement
with the revised scope of work.
 The companies are replaced with Rudolph & Sletten and Holder
Construction.

(Sub-Contractor)
AHC Glass
 AHC is a local company situated in a bay area of Hayward, CA having
more than 20 years of experience in a design, fabrication and construction
of structural glasses.
 They have designed and fabricated materials, they naturally move on to
provide the installation service of the glass and its component.
 Contract: Installation of 350 heavy glasses in apple campus.
 Work started: May 2016

In 2008, Steve Jobs
thought to construct new
Apple campus, the whole
glass structure.
In 2011 Architectural
design was submitted to
city of Cupertino.
Legal documentation
work completed in 2013.
General Contractors and
Sub Contractors were
appointed.
Two general contractors
were fired and they were
replaced.
Glasses and related
materials to fix the
glasses were
manufactured and
imported by Seele from
Germany.
Seele gave guidelines to
AHC on all glass related
works
AHC experimented
different combination of
teams for different type of
work and finalized the
best teams to deal with
the work suitable to them
The work by AHC started
in May, 2016.
Project Scope
Management
 This knowledge area involves the
project scope, that is, the work that is
included within the project.
 Plan Scope Management
 Collect Requirements
 Define Scope
 Create WBS
 Validate Scope
 Control Scope
Scope
 Study the requirements presented by Apple Inc.
 Work according to the guidelines provided by Seele.
 Installation of all the 350 glasses within estimated time as well as in
budget.
 Work with 100% accuracy.
 Safety is the first.
 To achieve the scope,
 Various combinations of team.
 3 teams in operation : Installation of glasses, Caulking Process, Quality
Assurance
 Instant communication on completion of tasks and getting confirmation.

Project Time
Management
 This is usually the most time
consuming of the knowledge areas.
 During planning, the project manager
must divide the project into tasks and
create both a schedule (start and finish
dates for each task) and budget for
each task.
 Plan Schedule Management
 Define Activities
 Sequence Activities
 Estimate Activity Resources
 Estimate Activity Durations
 Develop Schedule
 Control Schedule
Project Time Management
 DPR and SKANSKA were fired by Apple and Apple hired new Company.
 Delay in construction and interior work, because of this AHC faced
problem in starting their work.
 Time increased due to changing of all glass door handles.
 Resources-Top Rail-Bottom Rail-Glass Fitting(2 days)-Site clearance.
 It takes 1-2 days to fit the glass.
 They review the progress every weekly.
 To manage scheduling problem, Employees are still working for 12 hours
since last 8 months.
Project Cost
Management
 The project budget is usually one of
the most sensitive parts of a project.
 Plan Cost Management
 Estimate Costs
 Determine Budget
 Control Costs
Project Cost
Management
 The budget for the glass:- 6 million.
 Around 17% of budget is for equipment.
 Major expanse is for gantry Crane(50-
50).
 They also make a cost-benefit graph.
 Over budgeting due to error in
estimation.
 Cost increased because 45 glasses
were damage and because of increased
rate of rental machinery due to error in
scheduling.
Project Quality
Management
 Quality is one of the triple constraints
of Time, Cost, and Quality. As such,
when you need better quality you need
to put in more time or cost.
 Plan Quality Management
 Perform Quality Assurance
 Control Quality
 Quality work checking by following authorities
 AHC glass inc.
 Seele Company.
 Holder Company.
 Apple (Randomly).
 The typical glass have 1/8 inch tolerance but apple
demanded THE 1/32 inch tolerance.
 The gap :- 5 mm (< 1mm allowable).
 Glass work- Noise(ITU-R 468 noise weighting).
 Even worker wear gloves to touch the material
which we can touch without gloves.
Project Quality
Management
Project Human
Resource
Management
 The Project team is usually one of the
most important factors in the success
of a project.
 If you have a good team, you will have
a successful project. This knowledge
area is concerned with acquiring the
right team, ensuring their satisfaction,
and tracking their performance.
 Plan Human Resource Management
 Acquire Project Team
 Develop Project Team
 Manage Project Team
 15-16 members.
 20 members team for Apple Campus 2 at site.
 Different Combination – Final Team on base on output.
 Seele taught the worker of AHC.
 4 Manager.
 Site Manager.
 Safety Manager.
 Project Manager.
 Project Co-ordinater.
 4 types of labours
 Apparatus
 Journey Man
 Lead Man
 Forman
Project Human
Resource
Management
Material Management
 Warehouse 1:- AHC warehouse(5000 sf).
 Warehouse 2:- 3 time larger than AHC one.
 Equipment:-
 Lowboy Trailer.
 Gantry Truck.
 Gang Box.
 Vacuum Glass Lifter.
 Laser Machine for alignment.
Project
Communication
Management
 Communication with stakeholders is
often the key factor that allows
stakeholders to be satisfied even when
unexpected changes happen.
 It is essential to develop
communication plan to keep all
stakeholders “in the loop” throughout
the project and communicate early and
often when unexpected issues occur.
 Plan Communications Management
 Manage Communications
 Control Communications
Project Communication Management
 Email through.
 Report within 5 min of the completion of work.
 Quality Check at the same day of completion (by 3 members).
 Weekly and Monthly Meetings.
 Walkie Talkie communication while construction.
 Develop software(Park-2.0) to cumulate the work process.
 Daily schedules-Whatsapp-Email-Text.
Project Risk
Management
 Managing project risk is one of the
most underrated aspects of project
management. Major risk are very
seldom identified up front and analyzed
within the project management plan,
but when they are project stakeholders
tend to forgive the unexpected issues
much quicker.
 Plan Risk Management
 Identify Risks
 Perform Qualitative Risk Analysis
 Perform Quantitative Risk Analysis
 Plan Risk Responses
 Control Risks
Project Risk Management
 Handling of Vacuum Glass Lifter
(Weight-limited space).
 Safety risk for material and man
power(45- glass damaged).
 It’s challenging when you’re doing
first-of’s.
 They certainly have a lot more
schedule and cost risk associated
with them.
Project
Procurement
Management
 Almost all projects have some form
of outside procurement. Hiring
subcontractors can get the job done
quicker or with better expertise but
sacrifices the ability to control the
quality, schedule, or other factors.
 Plan Procurement Management
 Conduct Procurements
 Control Procurements
 Close Procurements
 Procurement for machinery from another company
 Procurement for glass which they are getting from Germany
 Procurement for safety
Project
Stakeholder
Management
 There is nothing more important than
the project’s stakeholders.
 You could, in theory, declare a project
a success if the stakeholders are
satisfied but the project was a disaster
if the stake holders are not satisfied.
 The stakeholders should be actively
managed and addressed within the
project management plan.
 Identify Stakeholders
 Plan Stakeholder Management
 Manage Stakeholder Engagement
 Control Stakeholder Engagement
Project Stakeholder Management
 Apple-Monthly meeting.
 Holder-Monthly meeting.
 Seele- weekly meeting.
 Also workers was taught for
new technique.
