This document provides an overview of recent developments in arbitration in China. It notes that the PRC Arbitration Law took effect in 1995 and that there are now 235 arbitration commissions in China that have handled over 900,000 cases involving over 1.4 trillion RMB in disputes. It also discusses the dual track system for foreign-related versus domestic arbitrations, new arbitration rules from various commissions, the split of CIETAC and establishment of new commissions, a Supreme People's Court reply letter, and the recent opening of foreign arbitration institute representative offices in China such as HKIAC in Shanghai.
